Not long ago, I was very fortunate to win a giveaway that our fellow member willgoy had. It was for a burnt orange GEC lock back.
I don't often enter give aways, but when I read what knife he was giving away, I had to enter.
It was the exact knife I had bookmarked at a couple dealers a while back, but as thing got hectic and time went on, I just forgot about it.

Well, she arrived yesterday just before I was heading out to go to work.
When I opened the tube, it put a huge smile on my face.
I love it... Plus, he included a very nice post card with a Moose on it. I do like my critters :D I did have one surprise when I got the package, I had no idea William lived in Finland.

William had mentioned that the knife had some slight pitting on the blade thanks to a fellow party goer some time back.
It really isn't bad, and to be quite honest, I would much rather have this knife, than a new one. It already has character, and a story to go with because of its misfortune at the party :D

The action is very smooth, and locks up with a very positive click. Oh, and the scales are terrific.

So, here are a couple very quick pictures I took yesterday before rushing off to work. The really don't do the knife any justice, but today I am rushing around getting ready to leave for work again :(

I can see now why the G.E.C's have a good following.

Thanks again William. I truly appreciate it, and she is in pocket ready to head to work with me again.

That's a great looking knife, Mike - congrats! And a double :thumbup: to William for such a generous give-away!

willgoy is a hell of a guy, i was surprised he lived in finland also since his english is superb. that model gec is very easy to open & has a great lock. in finland they call moose by the word elk, elkhounds originated from there or sweden. i believe my facts are correct & if not william will let us know.--dennis

Mike, the #72 lockback is kinda like your 338s, capable of nearly anything.
But the #23 Pioneers are like the 375 H&H, able to answer EVERY situation.
You might have to add one of those next. ;) Congrats on a great score!

Thanks for the pictures Mike, wish I could do these things.....But glad you enjoy the knife and it got there OK!

Dennis, in Europe Moose is referred to as Elk (which can get confusing as Americans refer to a breed of deer as Elk) They are more or less similar each side of the Atlantic in DNA I believe. Rather like the Beaver from Canada or the few beaver in Europe. As for dogs, not sure but I think Elk Hounds were originally from Norway, there is a Karhu koira here which is similar but black&white and was originally used for hunting Bear! The name being literally Bear Dog, as you can imagine they are fearless....

My pictures really don't do the knife justice. I'm not real good at it to begin with, and I literally had my pickup warming up to head for work, as I ran outside to take the pictures.

Not only did I get a really cool knife, I learned something new. I had absolutely no idea that Moose were called Elk over there. I always thought Moose were Moose, and Elk were Elk. I have been an avid (obsessed) Elk hunter for quite a few years. Our Elk, not the Moose Elk lol.
Btw, I just got home from work and finished a big BBQ'd Elk burger :D

I have to say though, when I was in Alaska about 6 years ago, it was the first time I had eaten Moose. I didn't think it was possible to find anything that tasted better than Elk, but the Moose really was outstanding, and was even better than Elk. Unfortunately I don't have any of that in the freezer :(

I like that analogy  :D

Thanks Duncan. Travis was still up this morning when I got home from work, and I had taken it out of pocket, and set it on th ecomputer desk.
He spotted it sitting there, and said, Dad I really like that knife...

I said thanks, and told him to not get any ideas :D
