Greetings All:

Before I began making knives I owned two of Ron Gaston's knives - the fit and finish were exemplary. Regretfully, they were sold (among others) to help finance a $3,000 belt grinder. I decided to depart from his norm a bit by making it flat ground with a hamon and file worked thumb serrations on a rounded spine. OAL - 8 1/2" BL - 4" Ricasso - .165". All comments welcome

V/R,

TK

My first custom was a Gaston. He is one of the most unrecognized great makers if there ever was one. That is a great tribute--sheath included!

I agree with everyone else, buddy - the red liners are precisely what this needed to send it over the top. Looks great!!

That's a really well done Gaston style!! I was a fan of Ron's work, bought a few from him way back at NY Shows. His style was very recognizable, still have a couple of his catalogs.

Thanks to all for the positive feedback - much appreciated. :)

I saw Ron Gaston's knives in person at the Guild Show n\]back in like 1992 in Orlando. I ALMOSt went the stock removal route instead of forging when I eventually started messing around with knives in 2005 because of his stuff.

I looked at that knife a couple times and I think a similar style one is going to wind up on my short list.

Scott: The picture doesn't show it but the bottom of the ricasso/bolsters area is rounded up to the choil.....a very distinctive touch by Gaston on most of his creations and another element to the knife.
