Hello all, I just got my first GEC, a #23 with reptile green bone handles. It's much larger than I thought it would be which is ok. The scales are what drew me to this knife, and I like how they feel in hand. The knife smells fresh from the shop. hehe Anyway, thought I'd share a couple of pics. Also had a couple of questions. Does SARPNT mean anything beyond the obvious? The backspring is very strong on this knife. I think it's a tad difficult to open actually. Is this normal for GEC and will it ease up if I open and close it a lot?

Very nice. I really like the color of the scales. I have one GEC (a #25 barlow/wharncliffe) and I'm bound to get another.

bladkersh02, did your knife come in the original box? SARPNT was a so called folk lore story which was was labelled on the carton, if not I will post the story later unless anyone else knows it.

Nice looking knife you have there. I haven't bought a GEC yet but when I see knives like that, it tempts me to place an order real soon:D. Hope you enjoy it and use it daily.

Great lookin' knife.
I dont have a GEC yet, but will probably get one some day.

Congratulations on your purchase of a great lookin knife.:cool: Reminiscent of the Rsomething:o Remington Bullet Trapper. They have a manly spring load as well. I don't believe that it will get much easier to open or that would mean not good things about the spring tempering. I imagine, if you take proper care of it, it will be hard to open forever. :)

That knife has always caught my eye and I thank you for the better pictures of it.

And I would love to hear the story if someone would post it here...

That is a great looking knife. Enjoy!

I have my first two GEC's on order (#73 scout in red buffalo horn and a #54 big jack in burnt sambar stag) after seeing your pics now I really am itching to get my hands on them. lol

I just bought my first GEC (ebony #73) and I have been sorely tempted by that SARPNT. Your pictures are not helping me resist.

Congrats on the GEC!

Be careful they tend to be addictive. I somehow managed to end up with 6 of them over the last 6 months.

here's my SARPNT and the story that was posted on the side of the original box.

S.A.R.P.N.T.

Nestled right against the Allegheny River, among the forested mountains of the National Forest lies the quaint but legendary village of Tidioute, PA. It is historically known for it’s fabled cutlery past, which is very well detailed in David Anthony’s new book, “A Town With An Edge.” But also for other legends such as the famous free flowing Grandin Oil Well from the oil boom days of the late 1800’s, and the nefarious Ben Hogan, know as the wickedest man in the world.” Who was said to have held parties near Tidioute on Babylon Hill with his girlfriend, red haired French Kate.

Another legend exists however but it is little known and avoided in conversation, involving suspicious sightings in the usually unobtrusive Allegheny River. Although questionable, there are account of curious activates in the river such as the local man who was exiting his tippy canoe along the shore when he heard something playing in the water nearby. He turned in time only to see a serpent’s tail pull beneath the water. There is also the first hand account of a women who after leaving her gin game one night, noticed some mysterious swaying movements in the dark river waters being made by an indistinguishable creature. During the recent Tidioute first annual western days celebration, GEC sales representatives were set-up to show in front of Scott Kagel’s True Value Hardware store when the latest sighting occurred. A lady attending a barbeque near the river was startled by a loud slapping sound made by a reptile like creature in the water along the river’s edge. While recanting the story, someone suggested it was probably just an animal and she was loudly heard to exclaim “That was no beaver tail!”

You will find in the preceding tale the words that make up the abbreviation S.A.R.P.N.T.

Hey all, thanks for posting the story Rusty1. I was about to earlier and suddenly BF went poof. I've gotten so used to tossing my tactical boxes in another box, I didn't even read the back of the tube the knife came in. Doh! I think I should be more afraid of that Ben Hogan guy tho.

Yah, I'm already looking for my next knife be it GEC, Bulldog, Queen, or Case. There are so many patterns and I'm thinking maybe a bit smaller. The Dan Burke Sunfish looks interesting.

Makes sense too about the backspring temper. It's a burly spring for sure. I pull it up with my nail and then pinch and pull to the half stop, but it slipped once and fired back closed. Just gotta be careful.

Nice pic too Rusty1 :)

Very Nice, I really do like the size. Just curious what would that style of blade be, spey?

That is a nice looking #23. The pics put it into perspective as far as the size. I've bid on one of those but didn't win it...Enjoy, its a great looking knife.

Tanks for the comment on the pic! I know what you mean about the blade, not paying attention I sliced into a finger when closing the knife a while back, snaps like a SARPNT, LOL,
