I have been watching Adam's work ever since Andy mentioned his level of talent when he first brought him on board. I had been wanting to check one out in use for some time and kept watching his models. I tend to prefer a pointy tip to work with on smaller knives (any knife to be honest, but that's just me). I talked to him about fielding one for a while some time back and we discussed sizes and attributes I would prefer to be able to try it in the most number of tasks in one knife and still keep the tests withing reason. Technically what some might consider a bushcraft / tactical hybrid, and I mean honestly tacti-cal and not tacti-cool. There is a huge amount of difference between those two. The knife arrived several days back, but since I have been pretty busy it took a bit to get a sheath put together for it so I could edc it, and I need to do that in order to really put it through some work in the field. Having used it a little and played with it a bit, I think he may need just a little bit of guidance / feedback from some who have spent more time actually using the knives in the field doing various tasks under different conditions, to help him make some very minor tweaks in just a couple of areas. Just little things to be honest. Some subtle things that aren't fully understood without a lot of hours of having a knife in hand in long term use in varying applications and holds. That said, the knife is damned impressive as it is. His comprehension of the parameters of the needs is very good, the profile is well suited to the uses I described. His attention to small details is noteworthy. The grinds are very nice, particularly looking at the complex grind of the swedged clip, which is not an easy one to master. The edge is very nice. His symmetry is just spot on, and his fit and finish is stunning. From the structural aspect the physical execution of this knife is just wonderful. It puts some that I have used, which were made by makers who have been selling knives for much much longer, to shame to be honest. I understand Andy's praise for Adam's talents better now, he definitely wasn't exaggerating about that. They are noteworthy even before you know how young he is. I think Adam is a good one to keep your eyes on. I think once he gets a few little things dialed in he could be a force to reckon with in the knife world.
Having handled and used knives made by a few of Andy's apprentices, I have to say I love what Andy is doing for the knife community as a whole, besides just bringing us his awesome knives. The level of skill, pride, and drive to be true craftsmen I see in the folks he has pulled into his circle and helped is a great thing to see. I think it is giving the knife making industry a shot in the arm that it has been needing for some time. The longer I know the man, the more proud I am to be able to count him among my friends.
These are just a couple of initial shots of the knife to give some context to what I have written, I made myself a black forest ham sandwich earlier
But since Adam does not have his own forum, I will post more photos of the knife here as I use it more.
