I have been watching Adam's work ever since Andy mentioned his level of talent when he first brought him on board. I had been wanting to check one out in use for some time and kept watching his models. I tend to prefer a pointy tip to work with on smaller knives (any knife to be honest, but that's just me). I talked to him about fielding one for a while some time back and we discussed sizes and attributes I would prefer to be able to try it in the most number of tasks in one knife and still keep the tests withing reason. Technically what some might consider a bushcraft / tactical hybrid, and I mean honestly tacti-cal and not tacti-cool. There is a huge amount of difference between those two. The knife arrived several days back, but since I have been pretty busy it took a bit to get a sheath put together for it so I could edc it, and I need to do that in order to really put it through some work in the field. Having used it a little and played with it a bit, I think he may need just a little bit of guidance / feedback from some who have spent more time actually using the knives in the field doing various tasks under different conditions, to help him make some very minor tweaks in just a couple of areas. Just little things to be honest. Some subtle things that aren't fully understood without a lot of hours of having a knife in hand in long term use in varying applications and holds. That said, the knife is damned impressive as it is. His comprehension of the parameters of the needs is very good, the profile is well suited to the uses I described. His attention to small details is noteworthy. The grinds are very nice, particularly looking at the complex grind of the swedged clip, which is not an easy one to master. The edge is very nice. His symmetry is just spot on, and his fit and finish is stunning. From the structural aspect the physical execution of this knife is just wonderful. It puts some that I have used, which were made by makers who have been selling knives for much much longer, to shame to be honest. I understand Andy's praise for Adam's talents better now, he definitely wasn't exaggerating about that. They are noteworthy even before you know how young he is. I think Adam is a good one to keep your eyes on. I think once he gets a few little things dialed in he could be a force to reckon with in the knife world.

Having handled and used knives made by a few of Andy's apprentices, I have to say I love what Andy is doing for the knife community as a whole, besides just bringing us his awesome knives. The level of skill, pride, and drive to be true craftsmen I see in the folks he has pulled into his circle and helped is a great thing to see. I think it is giving the knife making industry a shot in the arm that it has been needing for some time. The longer I know the man, the more proud I am to be able to count him among my friends.

These are just a couple of initial shots of the knife to give some context to what I have written, I made myself a black forest ham sandwich earlier :) But since Adam does not have his own forum, I will post more photos of the knife here as I use it more.

Ahh, the old ham test, about as close as us city-folks ever get to the "whole hog"

Mine arrived yesterday from last Friday's frenzy and even my wife said cool knife, I like it -- which is VERY unusual.

I miss butchering hogs sometimes. I'm sure I would get over that again about halfway through one these days, but I do love the taste of meat you have raised yourself and know what they have been eating :)

I'm very proud of Adam. Thats a sweet looking piece bro.

I should have my first Valkyrie (Companion) tomorrow. MMatt hooked me up with a "can't pass up" deal.. I look forward to giving it a good test run.

I am waiting for my little punk... gonna take a couple weeks more with Blade coming up. I needed one after Phil posted pics of his in EO....

 I like the design, the matte finish, and sand blasted black canvas. Looking forward to your review Brian.

It's easy to see why you would be. Yeah, I think so too :)

Cool, looking forward to hearing your thoughts on it. His Companion is what inspired the concept for this one.

The Punk looks like a good stout edc, and yeah Blade throws wrinkles in everything. EO?

I do too Gus. Poor quality photos taken in poor lighting but the handle is actually OD canvas. I will be working with it daily for a while now that I have it where I can carry it on my belt :D

I would also like to know what you think.

I received the Companion today. I have literally only held it for a few minutes and long enough to take a few rainy day indoor pics.

Mat (MMatt) offered it up to me knowing my love of big handled knives. He told me when I bought it that it is a big block of a handle. Mat and I have had many dealings and he knows my preferences. This Valkyrie sounded like it is right in my wheel house!!

This is a hand full of burlap! Its also noticeably heavier than similar sized knives. I will offer full disclosure, out of the box this felt like it might be too large even for me but the longer I hold it the more I am digging the size. The contours are right on for me. I'm in the minority with my opinion on handles but here is my .02 of philosophy. I find thinner handles and taper tangs to feel a bit rectangular to me in hand. I also find myself unintentionally gripping the small handles tighter so that I can "feel" them in hand. I confess that it could be that I'm lacking in the proper knife skills to take full advantage of a light tapered handles but I'm a bigger guy and I like to feel a knife in my hand. A large handle sits comfortable for me. I don't have to exert any additional pressure to grasp it. I close my hand and the knife is secure. I can tell that is especially true with this one. It seems like it takes next to nothing to feel like I have a secure grip on this handle. It's a natural feel for me.

The burlap is extremely grippy on this one. It doesn't quite have the high gloss and finish of similar Fiddlebacks but it's not a negative. The texture gives a good foundation for a solid grip and looks a bit rustic at the same time.

I look forward to getting out with it and really being able to use it and form some more informative opinions. I will keep posting as I do Adam and give you some thoughts.

Next to a current model Handyman for size comparison

This dwarfs the handle of the Handyman

My old school, BEEFY handle Hunter (also from MMatt) has always been the big dog on the block in my collection. This is my go to knife when camping. The Valkyrie companion showed up and tried to punch the Hunter right in the mouth for that big dog spot! :D The Hunter is still king but the Companion has a similar feel with a slightly shorter blade. This is going to be a great user for me with this the combo of handle and blade length.

Adam I am very impressed. I know you are perfecting your craft but you are well on your way and I am a fan.

Thanks for sharing MajorD I'm glad you like it. Its rare that I shape a handle that fat but I know there are some guys out there like you that like it.
