For Christmas this year, my dad has gifted me with my first gun, and almost everything I need to go with it. It's a Cabelas .54 caliber percussion cap muzzle loading riffle.

It's sat unused for 5 or 6 years, so the brass needs cleaning up, but it's real cool =D The powder measure is the thing in the worst shape, and it's nothing that a little brasso won't make nice and shiny again.

It may not be 'tactical' but it's sure a whole lot of fun! I love the big POW WOOSH! of a muzzle loader, with the big blast of smoke and whatnot =)

Of course.. now I need to learn what the gun laws are in Rhode Island, and find a place down here that I can shoot, and a place where I can get gun supplies. I haven't been to the range since I lived in New Hampshire over 10 years ago.

looks like a nice piece. I love black powder. Be sure to dismount the barrel and run hot water through it followed by drying patches followed by oiling patches after using it to get the salts out. I was taught to fire a cap once before loading to make sure the nipple is unobstructed, and I have never had a black powder misfire or hang fire. Also make sure the ball and wad are firmly seated on the charge

Now you have a perfect reason to make a Mountain Man set with a small Bowie and a Patch Knife.
