Hello,

Here is my first successfully completed hamon, 1095 intrerupted quench, brine then oil. This is a small, 5” blade inspired by the tanto.

Ashi is also present, which I think is nice.

I acid etched then used aluminum mag wheel polish, that’s it. Next time I'll try lemon juice etching, just to see the differennce.

I think it came out pretty good, let me know what you think.

Thank you,
Constantin

Good job! Next time, for sure try the vinegar etch. I throw in a bunch of lime juice as well, warming the solution on the stove with a dash of dish soap.

I also used Mother's Mag aluminum polish but I MUCH prefer using loose 1500 grit silicon carbide powder. I always felt the paste polishes sort of washed out activity I was trying to show, while the SiC powder did a better job.

I love a clean, straight hamon! If you can continuously replicate that, than you are doing everything right! no notes, well done.

I keep coming baxk to this to stare at that knife. That's a very pretty knife, elegant in its simplicity.
Very nicely done, sir!

Thank you and thanks for the tips, I‘ll give them a try next.

Very nice, strong line!!
I just finished 2 testing knives this week, both 1095, one in brine then oil, another just oleo, lets see if anyone can guess wich one was in brine… 😂
I bring out the line with white vinegar in one and FC in other! Just for testing.
