No, deleting isn't the best idea. Why isn't your image working? If you try again, one of us may be able to figure out why.

I agree, love to see first knives.
They are most always much better knives than we are expecting to see before opening the thread.

thanks guys, in that case i'll probably have it up sometime tomorrow, I really don't feel like signing up for it this time of night.

OK, its up, thanks for looking. My next project is going to be a small camping shovel, out of a small child's shovel, with practically the same techniques.

Hey man!
You may wish to consider using material that will make a good knife, if you're going to go through all the work and labor to make something. Neither a putty knife nor a shovel will really allow for a knife with any good properties (edge retention, ergonomics, etc). You seem like you've got the drive to make it go, maybe you should start with some knifemaking supplies? I'd hate to see you get burned out because you're putting so much effort in, only to be left with a marginal product at the end.

OR, maybe you just dig doing what you do - at which point, ignore me. Everybody else does!:)

Mike, do you have your first knife?

This piece is about as nice as Jerry Fisk's first. Goes to show how far determination can take you.

Matthew gives good advice, keep at it.

Hankins shows a lot of class with his post, as has almost everyone else here. I'd definitely take him up on his offer for a couple blanks, that's extremely generous.
you just can never tell where this all will take you

Thanks alot guys, but I don't really want any real steels yet, I'm gonna give it some more practice before I put any serious work into knife making.
