My first HI purchase, and an odd knife that my father gave me.

This is my first Khukuri. After lurking here for a while, I finally read enough and went with the 16.5 WWII Horn handle. As I stated before, I was more excited about getting this, a $140 knife than I was about my last AR purchase. Hopefully, they are not as addictive as I am reading, but I think they are.

The other blade in the pic is a hand made knife that was made for my father while he was stationed in Turkey in the Army, over 40 years ago. All I know about it is what he told me. That it took the guy about 3 weeks to make it, and the blade is the same materal as a Khuk.(leaf springs)

Very nice!

How about a close-up of that other knife.

Yup, very nice and I would also like to see some closeup detailed pics of the Turkish made knife/kris.
Very interesting handle on it. :D  ;)

If anyone has any info regarding it, id love to hear it.
I remember one time when I was about 7,my dad cought me using it to chop some weeds . I think that was one of the worst ass whippings I ever got, and rightly so. As you can tell, its uses are more cosmetic than anything, and since the weed incident, it has been promoted to Cheif Letter Opener.

Thanks No-F-Body.  :D The handle material appears to be buffalo horn but I can't figure what the translucent material may be unless it's another sort of horn material. Do you happen to know what it is?

Kris w/ Islamic crescent and star. The translucent sections of the handle could be horn too. I have seen Mexican knives with handles that were entirely of that translucent material but partially delaminated due to age? low humidty? poor curing? all of the above?

It could be copal - basically amber that hasn't been around for a million years and had the chance to fossilize. Depending on age, some sort of plastic would be possible - celluloid? Bakelite? Could be horn as well, but the pale horn I've seen has more streaks in it.

That WWII looks like a winner. Test her out and tell us how she works. Thanks for pics.
