After reading and seeing all these DOTDs, I finally scored what I feel is a fantastic blade!!!! It is a Bolo and is the best cross between an axe/machette I ever used. It is so thick I thought it would be uncontrolable and too heavy.....I whittled through about 1/4 of an oak tree about 15" in diameter and hardly noticed it. The thing moves like the wind and chops with incredible force!!! I am truely impressed with this and look forward to getting another HI blade in the near future...wife permitting:o

Jason

I will get some pictures in tomorrows light!

welcome gravelface!

there are alot of choices so feel free to ask about characteristics of any particular model.

hah, i was fortunate enough to not be stricken very badly but i still have more HI than any other make save victorinox. knowing that you're a much more avid cutlery consumer than myself i just hope you have plenty of room above the fridge. prepare for HIKV.

Yeah, like 50+. :p Lord help Jai if anyone with a giant magnet comes anywhere near his apartment. :D

Jason, "HIKV" is a similar compulsion too that which we share on another forum ;)

I've got 3, and look for the DOTD every D

Congrats on your first HI !

Right on, sounds like you got a good one. I think you will come to like H.I. just as much as those Busse's, Swamp Rats, Scrapyards and Rangers. I know that I sure do. These blade are the true monster choppers. HIKV can be tough on the pocketbook, but is worth every penny spent towards its treatment.

Oh yeah, you should post some pics of that Bolo. Sounds like a true workhorse! How does it compare to your KC-4?

Good for you!

What's next on your list? Going to get one of the more traditional styles?
Seriously, I've never heard of anyone who got just one.

I need to spend a bit of time identifing them...the names have me lost.....it's like..OOooo the one third to the left with the curve??!!!! WTH...is there a link to what is what in the HI world. I see some I really would like to get but don't know what to call it!

The HI site has a lot of good info and photos and the more common models are listed there. What can get to be confusing is all the special productions that have been added over the past couple of years.
It appears that the kamis can create new models faster then we can buy them.

Here is a link to the Main Himalayan Imports site, just click on the Khukuri's link at the top,

http://www.himalayan-imports.com/

Also, you can go to the shopping site here for some pics and basic info,

Pretty soon you will be able to identify most blade styles with a glance. Some are just subtle variations of a fuller here, or a slightly different handle there.

Another convert, welcome to the shark tank. HIKV is like a coke habit, only constrained by lack of cash, and in many cases not even then. Jai is a prime example, the most rapidly advancing case of HIKV I can think of. I know if I had the cash, ie was not a student who can hardly feed himself, I would be here everyday sharking.
