Hi Guys,

Just got my first Hinderer!! It's built like a tank! Now I know what all the fuss is about :)

Can someone please help me identify which generation this is?

I'm guessing it's a Gen 3, cos the only complaint I have about it is a really weak detent,
I can pretty much flip out the blade while shaking it in the horizontal position. Is there anyway to correct that?

Thanks!
Heng

looks like my gen 3. tighten up that pivot screw a touch. Some people get it super loose instead of just letting the knife "break in". I have found on my gen 3s that detent is very good really.

Most likely Gen 3. "Hinderer" on lockside, not blade. Stop pin in early location, and so on. Only thing that slowed me down was the use of domed hardware to secure the scale. Newer production pieces are flat top heads.
Beautiful knife.
In the future, in order to get quicker and more accurate answers please give the blade length on XM questions.

Very slight pivot adjustments make a world of difference. Proper maintenance to include cleaning and light lubrication on any folding knife (by any maker) probably a good idea to entertain as well.

It is an earlier production Gen 3 3.5" XM-18. Be sure the pivot is adjusted properly and if the detent is still a bit light, disassemble the knife and push the lock bar to tweak it inward a bit (if this seems too intimidating, don't do it, adjust the pivot and enjoy the knife).

As N2K and RDA pointed out, this issue of the detent on Gen 3's is a simple simple solution. I will go further and say it is a simple solution to a Non-Issue.
I carry (EDC) Gen 3's Tip Up and Tip Down. Never have had an issue ever with an unintentional deployment. As for any concern someone may have with carrying in an area where "Gravity Knives" are verbotten - that is a simple solution too Don't carry there.
The pivot tightening is as involved as digging a dime out of ones pocket. Thumb on Pivot - Dime in slot - Righty Tighty - Done.
If it losens up (See previous sentence)
Gen 3 Detent falls in category of repetitive newbie topic.

Wow! Thanks for all the feedback. Really appreciate it!
Like you guys said, just a tweek on the pivot made a huge difference (with a dime too... )
Now I feel so stupid. Happy but stupid :)
(I'm still snickering to myself at rubiconss remarks...hahaha)

Thanks again guys.

Did that ship from Japan? Looks familiar. congrats on the score-beautiful knife. My first is on it's way as well, very excited. Gots the orange G10s also.
