Due to my local post office being closed on the weekends I was slightly delayed in getting my awesome Baryonyx Machete but it's monday now so I just went in and picked it up and I just have to say it's freaking amazing! Here's my simple amateur first impressions review:
The machete has a little bit a flex but is extremely solid and feels mean.
The handle is perfectly symmetrical allowing for easy use of both edges and is very comfortable in the hand.
The blade of course has 2 different edges which is the primary edge and the back hook for cutting more springy things as well as woody vegetation, it's also coated in a very nice looking finish called a "Natural Finish" (that's what it's called on the back sticker) which gives the blade a cool rugged "Used" look which looks very nice and it also has some spotting on it but I'm not sure if that's part of the coating or if maybe the louisiana weather may have gotten to it.
Something that's not actually mentioned in the page on the Baryonyx store page for the machete is that it comes with a very well made beautiful leather sheath that fits the knife perfectly but unfortunately this is where the only problem with the knife comes from, the machete is hard to use with this sheath because if you don't pull it out perfectly it will slice straight through it. the company is still trying to get a good foothold with a strong customer base so for now sense it would cause needless trouble to bother the owner with changing the design the current sheath will work and I'm sure most people can get a custom sheath if they really don't like the current one, but my suggestion for the future is once the owner can change the design he should change it to maybe a plastic design with a more open back.
so my rating for this machete even though I haven't used it yet due to the weather is a full 5/5 because even with the problem of slicing right through the sheath sooner or later the sheath is such good quality that it's something I can get passed for now, also I think if maybe the current customers could atleast get the machete in the hands of a youtube channel I'm positive it would take off quickly and help the company with sales not to mention this thing has such potential for the "Zombie Apocalypse" market
because while it's design is meant for work the look of it is very cool so you know people would love it for a zombie weapon, but anyway thanks for reading my first impressions and if you're reading this keep up the amazing work Baryonyx knife Co.!
Specs of the knife it self from the website:
Overall Length: 23 and 1/4""
Blade Length: 16"
Steel: 1075 High Carbon
Thickness: 2.2mm
Weight: 1lb 10oz
EDIT-I've already took a chunk out of one of the back straps and cut my finger because both edges are so freaking sharp also I plan on making another thread show casing the power of the machete when the weather here in Louisiana dries up.
EDIT2- I've found a decent way to sheath and unsheath the machete but it's still not suited to doing it while the sheath is hanging on your side.
EDIT3- just realized a strange piece of metal I found attached to the packaging is a p38 military can opener..... thanks Baryonyx knife co!
