Hello all,

I have just got my first Busse in the form of Boney Active Duty. I can tell you that it feels great in the hand, did not have a chance to use it yet but sure will. I already like it even before using it. I still have NMSFNO on wait, hope that Amy can ship it soon :)

I had also noticed some marks on the blade that I wanted to ask about. Since it is my first busse knife I am not sure if it is up to the quality standard of the Busse.

First I have noticed that one side of the blade has some interesting finishing that looks like overheated brick with little wavy cracks. I am not sure if that is just a cosmetic thing (that does not bother me) or structural damage. Since it is really hard to notice but only with the reflection of the light from the surface of the knife.

Second is the little notch on the handle (metallic part) that is also so tiny but I am not sure if I should be worried or just drink more ... :D

Hi, and welcome to the forums.

Especially with satin blades these little cracks are visible under certain lightconditions. Nothing to worry about. Try using a bit of dishwasher soap and warm water to "degrease" the blade. whipe dry and clean, and then put a small amount of very thin maintenance oil (I use "multi facet oil - K3710) on the blade. Satin never looked better this way...

The notch shouldn't be there but a you can use sandpaper to get rid of it...

Enjoy your new knife!

Welcome!
Remember this: 1) Many knife-folk are perfectionists.
2) Busse will make it right, always.
Enjoy your knife. More infi will be in your future.

Brother, no worries, this has been discussed regarding the Boney's. It is normal for this blade. I believe the hardness or something was changed a bit IIRC, to accomodate the thin blade. They are sweet, I love mine!

The one LE I have (still awaiting the SFNOLE) shows a wavy and swirly grain pattern which I think is just a characterisitic of the steel.

Yep, I have several satin blades with the same "wavy" pattern in parts of the blade. Nothing to worry about, just part of the finishing process. As far as the notch, it certainly won't hurt anything, just a minor visual defect. If it bothers you, I'm sure it would be fixed or replaced with no hassle.

Thanks all for reconfirming and freeing me from worries.
As for a little notch I do not want to bother with shipments and such (will cost me more in the end).
Will try to post some pictures once used in a wild.

Welcome:)
