My first interframe!

Beautiful work Chuck! I like this one even more than the last one you showed us. The dagger blade is wicked looking and the handle details are sweet.:)

hey,
id like to know some more on your knife, esp about the steels in the damascus and what kind of HT you got on it.

Sure hope it looks better in person than it does in the pic. Looks to me like it needs a little more work.

I'd like to see some better pictures. From the picture it looks like the inlays aren't centered but I can't tell if thats just the lighting.

Very nice for your first shot at an interframe. The ilnay needs some touchups but the blade and frame came out very nice! What did you use to cut the cavity in the frame?? Have you ever tried 416 stainless? It mills cuts and grinds great and is an excellent steel for interframes. Can't wait to see the next one Chuck!!

Although I admire the attempt, I have to agree the results looks a little rough.

Are you guys serious? What the hell's the matter with you? That knife is scanned and the dither marks make the inlay oval seem rough but I can tell you that not only is it centered I'll bet it's gorgeous in real life. Give the guy a break! He's got a beautiful design and the execution looks fine to me. If you're going to criticize then why don't you try your own hand at it!

I appreciate everyone's constructive criticism, but first of all, like I said this is my first one. Yes the scan/pic sucks, but the frame has a high satin polish and is too reflective for my amateur photo skills. I cut and ground the inlays by hand, not with a pantograph like the guys who make lots of interframes! The pockets were cut out on a CNC. The inlays are a little rough around the edges, but are in the center of the scales. But other than that the knife is mechanically sound, which is what is important first and foremost! If it dosen't work, than what's the point of putting the time and effort in, you can't polish a ****! I'll take some more pics and see what I can do.

The Damascus is made of 5160-1050-nickel. It is etched as nickel damascus. Heat treated like 5160, quenched at 1500 deg in oil and tempered/drawn at 400 for 1 hour, as per George Werth's directions.

Thanks For the support guys

I think if you reread stripers original post, you will see that he asked, and i quote...
What do you think?

Everyone is simply being honest.

When you ask for criticism, you should be able to handle the response,no matter if its good, bad or ugly. And for YOU to jump on fellow forumites after criticizing someone work is wrong. Striper posted his work, asked how we feel about it,we replied, and you got pissy.

doesnt work like that,bud.

Chuck, once again I compliment you on your efforts, most makers wouldn't even attempt it. My comments were based on what I saw in the scan, that's not to say you didn't do a nice job. I would expect your next one to be much better, and the one after that, etc.

No Peter, I don't have to make a knife to comment on it, I can appreciate what went into making it. When someone asks for opinions, "It's beautiful, it's perfect, it's the greatest knife I've ever seen" maybe be flattering, but are really kind of useless. I have a Hot Flash for you there are no Perfect Knives, and if this one that Chuck made was, he'd be the first one to make one.

Well said Phil! You are absolutely right and now that we have some better pics I see that I was as well. Beautiful work Chuck! I really like the carving and filework on the backbar and it looks like you did a nice fitup job with the pearl. Looking forward to seeing it in person one day soon.:)
