My First Jaguar Re-Handle

Looks very good. What did you use to make the slot in each handle? It seems like that would be the hardest part. It also looks like you replaced the tang pin, what did you use?

It looks like you did a fine job on the re-handle...... Now you need to lay a blade out, grind it to your desired configuration, and you're damn near making balisongs! Do the heat treat or have it done and you've got a knife. Nice job! ;)

Thanks for all the great feedback.

Dawkind: I drew a blade in AutoCAD and had it cut out in our water jet at work. I'll grind it down and have it heat treated. I used 3/16" 440C stainless.

Darth: Thanks, I also like thet clean lines and simple look.

Bat: I would say it took about 7 hours for this one. It was my first so there was a lot of stopping and checking measurements before I cut. I drilled out the holes in the blade to allow for larger pivot pins. The Jaguar blades are really pretty good. They are 420 stainless and polish up real nice with some work. My next one will be with my own blade.

Thanks Again,

Eric

I'd also be interested in how much time you have in that project.., great job!

Wow !!!!! That is really nice. If I didn't read this thread I would of thought that jaguar was making a new model.:D Will the next one have a latch? I will be one of your customers once you start selling. How does it swing ?

let us know when you are ready for public consumption-I have a jag and an old BM that are begging for brass handles

Yeah, that is a sweet one Mer! I hope that you continue with your efforts. You will, without a doubt do well.

Regards, :)

It makes me feel all toodly woodly! You could make a killing just rehandling old Benchmades. Like my 169 for instance. HINT HINT. Um, does look a lot like a Monarch though. Look at the photo's side by side.
Great job.
Keep up the good work

I've been thinking of doing re-handle work after reading everyones positive responses. I want to make sure I've got my technique down and would like to come up with a better system for the pins. I'm open to any suggestions or work someone would want me to do. Email me and we can talk. And yes it does look alot like a Monarch. When you're starting with solid stock you've either got plain, holes, slots or inserts. I really like the clean look of the Monarch so I went with holes for this one. I'm tossing around using copper inserts for my next one. Please feel free to contact me with suggestions.

Thanks again,

Eric

*whistling* Freakin' slick! That is the best refurbished jag I've ever seen. Well done Mer!! I hope we can see many more in the future!
