I finally got to get up and move around a little tonight but since it has been raining all day I was limited to my little shop. I took my knife that I just got from John on Thurs. and literally beat the snot out of it. All I had laying around was some dead osage orange that I gathered about a month ago.:D So that became my test medium. The piece I chose was about the size of my wrist and two and a half feet long, oh and did I mention very, very hard! I used another piece of osage as the baton and just went to town.
I am floored by two things how hard this stuff and just how tough this knife is. I will take pics tomorrow since my camera is dead tonight but the only thing to tell what I did is the pile of split wood and some orange tannin on my blade.:thumbup:

I believe it. John's knives are built for use, not some mamby-pamby sitting in a safe somewhere.

Added pics. The first one shows just how little of the blade I had to hit on the way down.

Great pics buddy, I'm still lovin that knife !!!!

What thickness is it ?

Nice pics. They all look better after a little use.

How do you like the thumb ramp?

The thickness is 1/8". I really like the thumb ramp on this one alot. On to many other knives it always seems like the ramp is to far forward to use and then in the way when you need to choke up on the blade. I really wanted this knife to be versatile and easy to use. When I gut fish and small game I tend to hold my knives by the top of the blade and use the belly of the knife to cut open their belly. With the thumb ramp where it is when I do this type of work the ramp is in the middle of my palm so as to not be in the way.

nice workout :)

interesting- don't see many (any?) of his knives w/ thumb ramps

I've never had a knife w/ one, but seems like guys love it or hate it (I know a lot of folks de-ramp their BarK River Bravo's & Gunny's, a lot don't though :))

This is the first one I did with a thumb ramp. I made this knife from a drawing ms3902 sent me.
