I know that to many of you this is old news but I wanted to share my first experience with John and my first custom knife. With the recent posts of Riverwarrior's designed knives and most recently protourist's Rule #9, it's pretty obvious that John's tag line of “Your Design Or Mine” is more than just a catchy phrase.

I've been lurking around Bladeforums for a while now, admiring various knives and trying to learn what I can. I read George Sears' Woodcraft and decided that I wanted a Nessmuk style knife. I realize that John offers a fine looking Nessmuk in his standard line but I had something a little different in mind; something closer in resemblance to his pocketmuk offering.

I sent John an email and asked if he'd be willing to make me the 'muk that I had in mind. He responded with a “sure will” and he'd do it for the same price as his standard 'muk! How cool is that?

Here's a picture of the drawing that I sent to John along with a basal wood mock up that I made just to see how it would feel in my hand and, of course, the final product. I'd say that it was spot on! (I put the exact measurements on my drawing but I assured John that they were just for reference :))

I couldn't be more pleased to have this knife. It's just what I asked for. I can't wait to put it to use! Thanks John.

Hi jacall -

Awesome! Thanks for posting the pictures of your design and the outcome.

That is a nice little 'muk, and John did an outstanding job of making it a beauty.

Congrats on your first JK!

best regards-

Thank you for posting. I believe this is the first Nessmuk I`ve done in walnut, to me it looks "just right." I think old George Sears would approve.

Thanks for sharing. I like seeing all the different designs people come up with, and yours look great. Really like the walnut handle.
