Just took the plunge and bought my first Kershaws, I got the JYD II, Whirlwind, and Mini Cyclone. Have liked knives a long time but only recently really started collecting, this batch had a lot of firsts for me; my first liner locks, first assisted opening, first flipper (the JYD).

Whirlwind feels light in the hand, maybe too light really, handy for EDC though. the A/O works like a charm, liner lock takes a bit of effort to release though, maybe it will wear in.

The JYD feels great in hand, great fit for me, the scales have an interesting micro check pattern, very grippy, the flipper design feels very natural and quick, blade is wider than I thought from pictures. A real winner.

The Mini Cyclone has a great feel, compact but substantial, it could have been my favorite but here's the problem--I can't get the spring assist to work. There is an on/off dial I know, I have tried open/shut on/off in every possible combination and no go. When I close it I can feel the spring vibrate a bit which isn't the case on the Whirlwind. Split whether I should send it back where I bought it or send it to the manufacturer. Or is there a repair I can make?

Other than that, am liking my new Kershaws. Dunno what my next one might be--possibly a Blur.

The AO on the Mini-Cyclone should engage when the blade is first opened and the On/Off is set to 'On'. When closing the blade you should feel some tension on the blade. Give Kershaw a call and see what they suggest.

For your next knife, an SG-2 Blur would be really nice. ;)

I have a cyclone, and I feel no shaking in mine. One thing to note is that when I first got mine, it took quite a bit of effort to turn that switch. After a short while (later that day) it was much easier though. The rattling doesn't sound good, I would get that checked up though.
