Today I received an 18" blem AK by Durba (slight tear in scabbard near mouth, hardly noticable). This is my first AK and I like it! Though an AK it feels rather light and nimble in my hand. This is due to both Durba's craftmanship (his khuks tend to be on the light side IIRC) and me working out with my 22" GRS. The khuk is 18.25" OAL with the blade being 12.25" long and 1/2" thick.

I took it outside and chopped through a mulberry log that I took down a few days ago. After cutting it in two I've decided that this will make a very good all around khuk (I can see why Yvsa and others like this model).

Right now I have the handle coated in Boiled Linseed Oil. When the finish dries I plan to file the edge on the large ring some as it wants to dig into my hand while chopping (my GRS has this same problem, I'll have to file it a bit as well).

Uncle had sent this out Monday but the terrorist attacks delayed its delivery. Nonetheless it was worth the wait.

Notthing will ever take the place of my 18: AK!!!! :)

Bob before you do any extensive filing on those rings you might just want to to file the flat area at the top of them to remove some of the oil and then soak them libearlly with super glue.
That helps tp prevent them from chipping out when filing the edges of the rings.

OK Yvsa. I'll be sure to get some super glue (the handle on my GRS has developed a crack anyway (waited too long between oiling jobs)). Thanks again for your usual helpful advice.
