Hello everyone ! I have finally decided to buy my first khukuri and all my research says to buy from HI so after going over and over their selections I have narrowed my choices down to two , and I would be thankful for any input I can get to help pick one. My first pick is the Chiruwa Ang Khola , and my second pick is the Silver mounted Ang Khola . Do you guys think the silver mounted is worth the extra 70 dollars and do you think that it would be a working blade or just a wall hanger , both would be used for home defense and the occasional camping trips.

Thanks for any thoughts

I would go for the CAK. I have a SMAK, it is fully functional but it is too durn pretty to use.

Rajkumar Silver Mounted AK

For Camping trips, I would suggest a BAS (British Army Service), I just find it more versatile.

Lok BAS

Weapon wise - I keep this under the bed

Rajkumar Tibetan Long Sword

In the nightstand

Padam Suga Knife

In a drawer in the sofa table, in the living room.

Tirtha UBE (Uncle Bill Especiale)

In my pocket, on my belt, basically no more than a hand's length away from me at any given time.

Bhakta Micro Mini Bowie or lovingly called a (IBBB = Itsy Bitsy Bawanna Bowie)

And the rest in the garage (man cave), just in case I need to access more "goodies" :)

I know, I know, I got HIKV...no cure yet.

I agree with cul. Although for home defense you might want a lighter faster blade or a pistol:D In all seriousness tho. Chopping and fighting blades are on opposite ends of the spectrum. Hopefully you wont be needing a fighter as often as you would a chopper so in that sense id go with the CAK. An 11" Sirupati or something similar make great fighters.

And that's the original IBBB, the 7 1/2" size. Mine rides with me always too. Just a super great knife. I sure hope we see another batch of those one of these days. I don't need the extra handle length of the version 2 although many with larger hands to prefer it.

I prefer this one...I don't need the extra length in the handle.

Wow very nice collection cul , do I really know what I am starting by buying my first one , I will take a closer look at the BAS thanks

To Answer your question.... The Silver Mounted Ang Khola is built as tough as any any ang khola that HI makes, but the fittings are real silver and thus are prone to dings and scuffs as any silver will be and the handle carving, while beautiful, is not quite as comfortable for extended usage as a normal handle.
For home defense, the lighter, slenderer models are preferred for their agility. The Ang Khola is more of a dedicated chopper.

Believe they have one. Mr. Tall, Karda? open door #3 and show us what they got!
