Yes I believe it has horn handles. I like the smooth curve and thick blade of the M43 it measured 7 mm in thickness close to the handle and 4 mm towards the tip.

Just got my first khukuri today it is a HI M43. I can't put this thing down. I was curious about the markings on the blade I believe it was made by a Kami named Sher but not sure. I would like to thank HI for the fast shipping, this thing is impressive. :D

Made them live. Nice blade. I'm sure she'll serve you well.

Ya did well . Good looking blade. Just wait until you use it. Then you'll really love it.

Great choice! I have two M-43's one with the earlier shorter handle (which also cants downward a bit more) by Bura, wuith a horn handle.

And another by I'm not sure who with the longer handle in satisal wood.

The Bura blade is my favorite. It is also the one which was with me over several hard livin years.

The M-43 is after a little use extremely lively in the hand. Exceptional performers in every way.

Welcome Brian1095!
Nice M-43, yes it was made by Sher (the Tiger) kami.

I'm a bit thrown off here. I don't recall Sher (the Tiger) doing any m43s and it doesn't quite seem thick enough to be Sher's work - m43s are generally meant to be 3/8" which is what yours looks like. However, Sher was infamous for making EVERYTHING overbuilt - a minimum of 1/2" for pretty much all his khukris. Lastly, he parted ways with HI several months ago so it would be odd that you would get one of his pieces if you purchased it recently (unless Auntie had one tucked away somewhere)

More likely than not, it is by our new Kami, Santosh Bhahadur who is honoring his Uncle (Sher the Tiger) by using the same mark. However, since they both have the same initials and both use the same mark, it would be difficult to distinguish between the two. For reference, here's the thread concerning Santosh Kami.

I thought I found a distinguishing difference between the two marks in that Sher had a dash over his first initial while Santosh did not, but that may not be the case.... here's what I mean:

Possible distinguishing mark between the two kamis (a dash over the first initial):

I might be completely off though and your m43 might be a kukri by Sher (the tiger)... but the only real way to know for sure is to ask Auntie Yangdu. I do not read or write Devanagari, so I cannot tell the minor details between penmanship of the two kamis

Look again Killa, his has the hash mark, I made the same mistake, it is a Sher...

Or it could be that the little hash mark is finding it's way onto santosh's product.
The only way to know for sure it to ask auntie.

Hello Brian 1095 and Welcome to the Forum. Did you order the M43 through Yangdu or did you get it from a previous owner? If it was through Yangdu, she would be able to tell you if it is a Sher or Santosh. If it was through a previous owner, they may be able to give you some provenance on the blade. Not all owners kept track of who made what though.

Whomever made it, you've got a real nice khukuri there. Pretty soon it will be chopping time, but read over the Safety Sticky before you go wild. Welcome aboard.

Rick

I ordered it from their website and thank you I can't wait to take it out and put it to work.

Now that would stink but I guess in the end, we knew it was gonna happen. :D

Even if it was made by his nephew that is still awesome 20 yrs from now I can say that I have one of his earlier blades :)
