My first Knife - A Damascus

Hi , I just joined the bladeforums site today and wanted to post my first knife I made last year for my grandfather back in Canada. He was really proud to have it, especially since I made the knife. I bought a blank damascus blade at the Spirit of Steel show last year in Dallas and made the brass bolster and used some deer horn from my friends buck he got the year before.

I think the blade and handle look just fine, but I don't find that the guard goes with the rest of the knife. I have always found a cross guard on a hunter to be out of place. The upper arm of the guard gets in the way of using your thumb on the spine.
