This is my first, I made it from a file because I know files make good knives, and finding a steel with a name on it is extremely difficult so pretty much every steel is a mystery steel.

The entire blade was ground on an 8” bench grinder (belt grinders don’t exist here) I did not temper the steel before grinding, I knew it was gonna take a long time but I didn’t want to have to harden the steel after grinding, and surprisingly it turned out pretty well, the blade holds its edge quite well, and is razor sharp.

The knife is 8mm thick at the spine, and the handle fits very comfortably in the hand, I didn't put scales on it because I like the rusty look, and it's pretty thick enough.
The maker’s mark is my initial (in Arabic), and was etched using a nail polish ‘stencil’.

The leather work was actually more challenging, since I had to make some of the leather-working tools myself.
I’m still working on making a stamp for the leather, I attempt to make it using a reverse deep etch on a piece of steel.

Thanks for the input folks I appreciate it.
I'll be tempering the next blade, and will do a comparison with this one. I also plan to build a forge in the near future, so I'll have a chance to test some other steels that I find here, and some can be quite cheap, I bought a couple 30"x1" 1/4" thick steel bars for 20 cents a piece.

You can still temper this one. It will make it a little less brittle. Files are generally hardened VERY hard...which makes em a bit brittle.
