My First Knife Accident

Today I was cutting through a box and for some reason I had my left index finger placed in the path of my knife, a Byrd Meadowlark G10 PE. I ended up cutting across my finger around the first joint down from my knuckles. It didn't hurt at all when I did it. I had to go to the ER, and I ended up getting 7 stitches. Needless say it hasn't been a fun day. The first lady who treated me kind of freaked me out because she thought I'd cut a tendon in my finger, and that I'd probably have to have surgery. The doctor alleviated my fears when he said I hadn't cut a tendon. I definitely bled a lot though. I soaked through numerous sheets of gauze and the stuff they soaked my finger in was very bloody. It's wrapped up in many layers of gauze at the moment. I'm sure it will feel great tomorrow, and I think this experience will surely teach me to appreciate a sharp knife.

...just remember to come up with a better story for that gnarly scar... you know, knife fighting in Sudan and stopped a blade with your bare finger...

Speedy recovery

Look twice, cut once.

Hope you feel better soon.

My first accident was with an old rusty knife my grandmother gave me -- a Boy Scout model that looked like it hailed back to about 1912. Lots of blood, some stitches and a shot, but the worst part was that my dad confiscated the knife! I didn't even view it as my fault. I mean, I had cut into the wood I was whittlin' and the knife had stuck in good. Trying to extract it, the blade suddenly flipped out and back into the frame, with my left thumb right in the way. It made an impression at the time, and later I swore off ALL slipjoints!

I was flipping my new bushmn in my hand not paying attention, (this is around 0100 hours, had to work in 5 hours) and pretty much sliced my left ring finger pad off, it was hanging by a thread. I will never forget that half second before the blood comes out and you think "not that ba..$hit!!!" but somehow I managed to press down on it real hard and somehow it began to clot in a few minutes, so I put a few butterfly patches on it, slapped on some polysporin, wrapped it up and went to bed. theres a bit of nerve damage but I don't know how I did it, I doubt a doctor could have done much better.
Not bragging, just dumb luck!:D
Still hurts a bit when I play guitar.

We want pictures :p I have only had a few small cuts, definitely not looking towards my first big one

I did something similar myself a few months back; only instead of a knife it was a circular saw on a Dremmel. I nicked the tendon sheath but was lucky enough to not damage the actual thing. It's healed up well and moves perfectly still but there's a small lump left. Hope yours goes the same or better:)

#1 that sucks...but it happens... #2 the "real" story is u were on a hike and u saw a bobcat and it was looking u down....and it ends with MAN BOBCAT JERKY IS GREAT!!!

Playing around with my new Cold Steel XXL Voyager. Lockback's kinda tight so when I was depressing the damn stiff lock trying to close it, I misjudged and the blade closed while my right index was in the blade's way :(

Lot of blood and missed my fingernail by 1/10 of a milimetre! I'll wait and see when my fingernail grows if it is affected by it.

Now when I want to close the damn thing I grip the blade end fully. Previously I hated dirtying the shiny blade (and only gripped it slightly) and now I don't give a shit :)

I did exactly the same thing when I worked at a local grocery store. I was using a razor knife to cut cardboard boxes. Sliced the top of my thumb off. Well, I washed with Peroxide really well (Which hurt like the blazes), then I put the top back on, smeared it with antibiotic, applied about 4 band-aids, and didn't look at it for 2 days. The only way you could tell something happened now is to look real close at my fingerprints, which doesn't line up any more.

Oooooo, pics for God's sake!!!???,....why not watch some old Rambo films or maybe Bruce Willis "Die Hard" stuff for blood and guts. Let the man heal, it took some cajones to admit cutting himself in the first place. Live, learn, and share for the experience of learning from someone else!

haha i did the same thing a few months ago. but it was between my thumb and forefinger. nearly passed out from so much blood loss:jerkit: and at first i didnt think it was so bad either, didnt bleed right away, then it started to squirt haha 8 stitches for me. live and learn man. get well soon.
