I've not been into bladesmithing for long but I finished my first stock removal blade early yesterday and with the rest of the day off I decided to try my hand at forging something. Here are the results of both efforts:

The knife is 1084, stock removal all the way. It has walnut handle slabs and a cast pewter bolster. I acid etched my initials and the date it was heat treated on the other side.

The tomahawk was forged from a high carbon railroad spike, I'm rather proud of it. Although it took me several tries and a couple of spikes but I finally wound up with one that is serviceable. With a sunburned neck and a sore arm I'm just fired up to do more forging now.

That's damn nice work, especially for "firsts" in either media.

I can see you will go far. Keep us updated on your work and progress!

Way to go man!!! That is very impressive work. I like the way you started both aspects of the craft at the same time. I was stock removal for a long before I gave forging a try and now I'm hooked! Once again that is realy good looking work. Looking forward to seeing more.

Totally AWSOME.....
Keep up the good work.Your friend came by my shop yesterday and watched me forge some damascus and then I helped him get his first blade forged out,He is doing like you and starting in both fields and that is great. He had fun using the power hammer and beating on a blade in the shop..
You both should visit when Chuck and the others are at the shop and we are all forging stuff out,it would be a fun day.
