Hey yall I am new to the hobby and I wanted to share my first knife build from a kit. I wanted to start by dipping my toes in and so far i like it... a lot. Hopefully you guys will have some tips and tricks to make my next blade even better and so on down the road. So here it is (hopefully)... My Drop Point Hunter from KnifeKits with Kingwood handles. I also made the sheath (also first attempt) out of london tan sewn by hand. The sheath didnt quite work out as planned but that is just another lesson. So what do you guys think? And what tips do you have for my next build? I plan on designing my own skinning knife with 154cm and using the stock removal method.

Thanks, I kept the edges kinda square to match the bolster. Kinda seemed to limit my options I definitely think I'll round my skinner out more.

Round and shape the guard/bolster while you are at it. It comes only as a rough shape, and needs to be refined. Take off the top corners and shorten the long tip.

Keep in mind that wet/dry sand paper will she'd it's abrasive and dull the coloration of the wood. Use the stuff found in paint departments in hardware stores (up to 400 grit is normally available) then use steel wool or scotch brite pads for high polishes.

Nice work for a first time sheath. One thing, A lot of people prefer to have the knife handle rest right around the belt line so it doesn't dig into their side when working, hiking, and ease of access.

Thanks for the tips guys. I just order a piece of 1095 to practice on. Being I don't want to screw up a $30 piece of stainless.
