This is probably not the right place to post this thread since it's not a becker, but wth, the bk&t section is the only part of BF i hang out at so it seems natural to put it here.
If i've been a bad boy i'll take my spanking like a man:P

It is a project i started probably 9-10 months ago, but i forgot about it for a while and decided to finnish it now to relieve some of the need for new steel while my wallet is on a diet.
It's actually an old file that i have softened in the fireplace for 4-5 hours. (Tried working on it without anueling it, but the sumbitch killed my hacksaw)

All cutting and grinding has been done with a hacksaw, belt sander and a half rounded diamond file.
Blade length is 7" and the tang is 7mm thick. The blade spine starts at 7mm and tapers down to 4mm before the point.
I've done a quick cordwrap handle on it, using polyester silk cord because i didn't have any paracord laying around, but the wrap will be replaced with fg paracord when i'm done with HT.

Reminder: It's my first time working with steel in this way, so be nice:rolleyes:

That really doesn't look too bad for the first attempt, especially not with the tools you used...
Way better than my crappy first attempt, although I got it sharp enough to cut myself, lol...

Thanks ;) I'm looking forward to get the HT done so i can try it out a little. If it sucks as a knife i could always use it as a prybar though.

Cool first attempt.
Swing over to Shop Talk.

Looks pretty good man. Nothing to be assamed of. Keep it up.

Thanks for the positive feedback.
Guess i'll make a couple of alterations to it before HT though.

I was thinking about shortening the blade a little 1" and adding jimping for starters.

The knifemaking bug bites, that's how it all starts. Good job for your first knife.

I like it, and you should never be ashamed of any attempt to make something....there is always learning in the process, even if the outcome isn't what you expected. I am impressed that this is what you were able to do with limited tools. I like the blade profile. This is not a criticism, but I am wondering if the user end (handle) might be more comfortably profiled for your hand...again, not a knock, but the handle looks...rectilinear...
Nice job. I'm looking forward to the rest of the pics.

looks better than the crap I've been turning out, good work man

Edit: *a lot better :D

Looks better than my first as well. Keep up the good work, and definitely pop into Shop Talk. Recommend you ditch the files and get some annealed steel from Aldo, however. Lots cheaper, and way easier. Need some Becker content in here though :)

Great work fellow new maker. I would recommend paying some homage to local makers (they are pretty much everywhere; maybe find them at a local knife show) and ask them for some advice. Many "play it forward", which is part of why I love knife makers and collectors.

Thanks again for constructive critisizm and kind words;)
I'm brainstorming a little bit to come up with good ideas for alterations to make it as practical as possible. Got a couple of ideas, but i'll let that be a surprise untill i get it done.

I did a little research about getting hold of some good knife steel to work with, but it seems the only way is to import it myself as far as i can see, or pay out my ass to some greedy company that sells the stuff at a 500% profit.

check for places that sell spring steel for auto and truck repair -- they generally sell "cut-offs" at scrap prices and will have several different types of steel in varying thicknesses so should have something you can use.
