Here's the first one finished out of the shop for 2025. W2 with hamon, fossil walrus, and battleship Texas steel. I chose the ship steel because I knew it etches gray and looks nearly sandblasted. I wanted matte fittings.

I did a big oosic/hamon bowie a few years back. Takes a special piece of oosic to make bowie sized.

What are limits and allowances on Walrus tusk ivory as they appliy to knife making and knife ownership?
I know enough to be very timid about it.

I know enough to be very timid about it.
My understanding is that fossilized walrus is all good, except in a couple of states. Freshly harvested walrus is highly regulated.

I have seen several videos where a guy is beach combing iand runs across a dead walrus or just picks up a tusk from the beach.
th explination from them is that such a tusk find is legal to hold and keep as a private keepsake but may not be sold or transferred.
