This here is forged 52100 out of some roller bearings, triple quench double temper and a soft back draw, SS dovetailed bolsters with a full flat grind and tapered tang and ivory paper micarta with SS pins and thong tube. Red fiber liners. Sanded to 600 grit. Horsehide sheath. My letter stamps are washing out a bit, but I'm building an etcher next week so no more trademark blues. Hope you like!

I forgot what care it requires finishing this phenolic cleanly. Lots of hand sanding. Whew.

Dang, a couple of these are blurry. Oh well, this was an order so I don't need to bank on these shots. Thanks for looking.

very nice! sexy lines and I love the pop of the red liners against the off white handles.
where does one find horse hide leather? I've heard it makes for a great sheath but havnt been able to source any....

Hey cutting edge, go to www.siegelofca.com, click on "tooling leathers," and then click "horse butts." They're veg tanned and mold and tool well. You have to pick between hard or soft rolled, and 6-7 oz. or 7-9 oz. I use the hard-rolled 7-9 oz. It's not too expensive and is a very stiff durable leather for it's weight.

Thanks guys. Get some of this micarta Nathan, I want to see what you do with it.

I think I will, Salem. I really like that knife, BTW. Great job on the sanding as well!

Salem, that looks really nice!! Very good work. I know what you mean about the ivory micarta. It looks beautiful when finished right, but it is a BEAR to sand! Low spots seem to show up like neon signs and it clogs belts like crazy when rough shaping. It must be worth it though, because I am already thinking about what I'm going to do next with it:D

That's a very clean, pretty knife to start the year with.

I know what you mean about ivory paper micarta. It's really
a pain to finish.

That is one of the most understated clean and elegant knives I have seen in a while. I rarely think of a knife as elegant but that one epitomizes it.

I'm liking that! Fit and finish look great, and that nicely tapered tang just sets it off! Nice work Salem!!

This is why I posted this here instead of in the Gallery. I like it when shoptalk folks look at my stuff. It's good to get feedback y'all. Jeez Ed, thanks. I really needn't mention that I'm a little in awe of your work. Thanks for not rippin' on my soft back draw.

Thanks for looking, guys. Have a good day out there.

VERY nice work, Salem. I love every part of this design. Very classy and like others said..."Purdy".

Thanks for sharing, well done sir!:D

Lovely. I'm making a pair in a similar profile right now actually, smaller though I think, with no bolster. Hopefully mine turn out at least half as well as that. I normally don't like the double row of smaller pins but in this case it really works well.

I really need to start learning how to do leather sheaths, kydex just doesn't do it for me and buying leather sheaths means either paying someone else or settling for the closest match and overpaying generally. That's a beautiful match up and just has me thinking I really need to make the leap and start learning.

Thanks Remy, hey, if a dummy like me can make sheaths OK I'm sure you can do it. It's not hard once you just buy materials and dive right in.

Salem

You did a beautiful job.
Just noticed the sheath, just the way I wanted it.

Thanks again
Roy
