Many months ago I posted about making my first knife, a Chinese veggie cleaver, and chose M4 as the material.
The cleaver is not done yet but here is the practice blade I made from the leftover steel.
I still need to put a handle on it and the handle will extend another inch beyond the tang.
It ended up about .059 thick at the spine near the heel and is about .013 behind the edge. Edge angle is 12.5 degrees. This is the first time I’ve ever accomplished hair whittling sharpness and did so straight off the Venev 1200 bonded diamond with my Hapstone. The initial grinding of the edge bevel was with an Atoma 140 placed in the hapstone.

The finish is 220 belt grinder followed by scotchbrite.

I’m excited.
