OK, I took everyone's advice and decided to go back and heat treat my first knife again in my new forge. Well, the heat treat turned out much better but the tip cracked. There was a lot of stress built up there since I had bent it several times when it was soft. Guess I should have normalized but I'm glad I didn't. If the tip hadn't broken I wouldn't have been inspired to grind a swedge. I think it makes the knife look spiffy. I also changed the handle as I never was very thrilled with the way my cord-wrap job turned out. Now for pics:

5 3/4" blade, 10 1/4" overall. Handle is red oak stained then sealed with Tru-Oil. What do you think?

Tell ya the truth, I can't decide which way I like better!
It looks good both ways to me!:p
First one "tactical".
second one "elegant".

Confusedly yours
Robert

I like them both but I would prefer the after, I really like the wood handle.Nice work.

Bill

I, too, like them both but prefer the second. Great you were able to turn the accident into something very positive. Now- back away from your computer and GO FORGE SOMETHING!!:D

Yeah, I'm with the "second version" crew. I also really like the false edge you added. Nice one!

Dave

Hehehe... as soon as possible Richard, I promise. :)

Glad you all like it. I too have a thing for wood so I'm much happier with it. It also moves from a forward grip to a backhand much easier now, without the swell at the end.

While that original point was something else, I have to join those who prefer the newer addition. Nice looking knife!
