Hi,

I've sharpened my friend's old army knife (unknown non-stainless steel, very soft).

All done with Japanese water-stones and finished with leather stropping.

It's not perfect and there some very gentle scratches on the blade. i will appreciate comments on the job.

Nicely done and the fact that this was your first try makes your accomplishment that much more comendable. Well done and I'm very happy to hear you used flat stones instead of one of the sharpening systems. I don't have anything against those more fancy sharpening systems but I'm a firm believer that you MUST learn the basics first because it an emergency of some sort you may not have access to a fancy easy to sharpen system but you'll always be able to find a flat stone somewhere. Just means that no matter what may come you will always be the guy with a sharp knife.

Blue tape is painter's tape. It sticks with a mild adhesive and is very easy to pull off, leaving behind essentially no residue. They make a green version that sticks more strongly and is harder to remove. The blue is popular for protecting knife parts while sharpening the edge.
