First of all, I'm a new member so hello to everybody here :)

I'm going to buy my first "nice" knife.
After hours and hours of reading information here, on some other forums and after watching several reviews I fell in love with the Spyderco centofante 3 - what a beauty :love-struck:

What is your opinion on this one? If some of you own the knife - how does it do over time? I'm often going to the mountains so I will mainly use it there - for slicing food, picking up mushrooms and of course some other (harder) tasks.

Is this the right choice or do you have some other suggestions for me. I will appreciate your opinion

the centofante 3 is a great knife. I am considering one myself. I dont know about how "hard use" it would be. Perhaps you would be better served in that area with a fixed blade of some sort.

Welcome! I love my centofante 3. Its very light, which makes it great for EDC and it slices like a beauty. What kind of harder tasks are you planning to use it for? I would be weary using mine for hard tasks just because of the slightly delicate blade and lack of steel liners. In terms of other suggestions what is the maximum price you would be looking to spend?

Its a quality product, if thats the one you like and you can afford it than buy it and enjoy it, dont expect it to be the last knife you ever own, consider it the first.

Since the OP mentioned "harder tasks", are you sure the Centofante 3 is the right knife for him? I assume you have experience with the knife from your recommendation.

You love it? Buy it. Spyderco is a quality manufacturer and the knife will always have that going for it.

We all bought "first knives." I doubt that very many of us still like them, let alone love them. It's how this game works.

Pull the trigger, my friend.

And welcome to BladeForums.

I don't think you can in any way go wrong with a Spyderco. The Centofante is a very nice knife and if you love it, go for it. I bet you'll love it. For my first "good" knife I fell for a purple Delica. I really just loved the look and the color of this knife. And I wouldn't do anything different a second time around. I sure love my Spydercos and I'm always plotting which one to get next :-) As for hard tasks, well, I think even the Spydercos without liners are tough and durable. Not sure I would use my G-10 UKPK to hammer down nails but other than that I think it could take a lot. For some really hard tasks you could always consider a fixed blade.

It's hard to go wrong with a Spyderco the Centefonte 3 is a really cool and kinda underated knife also I would suggest taking a look at the Spyderco Delica 4 with a FFG .

The Centofante 3 is one of my fav EDC knives. A fantastic slicer due to the thin blade!

For something a little sturdier, maybe look at the Delica 4. The Cento 3 is perhaps a little more refined and classy looking, but the two are similar in many regards.

A good compromise between the two may be a Delica 4 ffg, as mentioned by Whetrock.

Good luck! :)

The Centofante 3 Is A Nice Knife.
Then Again, Spydercos Are Amazing.
You Could Get The Centofante For Slicing.
Also, Take A Look At The Native.
It's A Pretty Good Priced Knife For Around $50, And It Has Nice Thick Grippy FRN Handles, And An Awesome Blade, Being s30v Which Is One Of My Favorite Steels. VG-10 Is Good Too But I Do Love s30v.

Hard to go wrong with Spyderco. If that's the one that calls to you, absolutely get it. My first Spydie was a Manix 2. It's still my favorite design, although I've upgraded to a sprint run version. Other people love the Para2, or the Military, or the Endura, or the Delica... There's just so many to choose from.

If my first knife had been Spyderco, I kind of feel like I would still love it. Sadly, it was a $2 gas station special (which was based on a Spyderco design). If I hadn't lost it somewhere, I'd probably still like it though.

Wow. Quite a lot of suggestions here. Thanks everyone. I will look closely at each one of them
@ marshallrogers - You are right about the Caly 3 - it looks like an amazing knife but unfortunately 100+ $ is more than I can pay for a knife at this point - maybe on my next knife ;)

I see some of you have suggested the Delica 4. What are the main differences between the two (except the flat ground blade on the Delica). Are they suited for different tasks?
