My first knife to shave the tops off

I've read about "shaving the tops off", now I can do it even on my fine arm hairs!

My second-user Bark River Fox, after some much-needed TLC to the edge, is ridiculously sharp.

Some careful use of ceramic rod and the back side of 3M wet'n'dry paper brought back the convex edge nicely. At that point, it would easily take the tops off my chest hairs (my wife gave me some *very* funny looks).

I bought a heavy leather belt at an outlet store to strop it on. After ten minutes, it takes the tops off my arm hairs like magic.

Just wanted to tell someone who understands...

Ain't that the truth! You know you're a knife knut when - you see blood and immediately start looking yourself over for the cut!

Also, when the cut hurts, you know it's going to take a while to stop the bleeding.... :D
 
You know your knife is sharp when you dont feel it cut into you and then you see blood all over.. been there a few times.
 
That is the true sign of a mirror edge. Not recommended on purpose. Is it better to look like you have mange or to look like you are a "cutter?"

When an edge is thin enough, and it seems Bark River knives are thinner than thin enough, a polished edge slices with the best of them.

That's so true! I've had to start re-sharpening all my knives. They were OK to begin with but are getting much better.

I've got to give most of the credit to you guys here, for sharing the knowledge, and to BRKT for making a seriously good knife. This knife really *wants* to be sharp; I feel that it *needs* to cut things. It's Alive!!!

I've been 'into' knives since I was a kid; friends often gave me their knives for sharpening. Until recently though, my only sharpening tool was a double sided carborundum stone my father gave me and a small ceramic stick.

I've recently refound my interest in collecting and using knives (I only really collect ones I would use) and thought it about time I bought some proper tools. Wet'n'dry, a spyderco sharpmaker, Lansky set and a leather belt. My edges have gone from shaving sharp to scary sharp.

Has anyone noticed that a *really* sharp edge seems to 'tickle' if played gently on the tips of fingers? Almost like a mild electic shock. Makes me want to shake my hand. Maybe it's just me.
