Well, I just finished my first knife and I had an uncontrollable urge to show it off! The pics are below, and the details are as follows:

Blade: 2 /12" laminated steel

Knife handle: 30,000 year old cave bear tooth

Sheath: Brain tanned elk hide, beaver tail, and coyote claws

As you can see, I'm into that primitive look. Well, what do you think? Be nice now, or I may never make another knife! ;-) By the way, the sheath took a LOT longer to make than the knife.

Welcome to the Forums, Kevin!:)

The knife and that sheath:D look really super! Love that primitive look. Keep up the good work and keep us posted.:)

Nice, now you gave me an idea for the piece of wooly mammoth tusk my bro sent me from Alaska,(The first and second largest state):D

Very nice Sr. I love that kind of knives.

Keep going with that kind of work...

Wellcome to the forum.

Nice work. (The fact that it's nightmare fuel for PETA people makes me like it even more):D

I like it. Very original handle material and a good utility shape to the blade. The sheath is outstanding. If that is your first knife I am really interested in seeing what you will be doing in a year or so.

Well It looks great! Though I must confess that I disagree with the use of wild animal claws, skin or any body part (The bear tooth is a fossil so you're excused for that...). I know you, or the person that killed didn´t do it to get some "neet claws or tail" (I hope...)but it's a question of principles (I wouldn't want to start a fashion or to diseducate children, so I must be coherent also because I'm an ecologist).

It IS nice! :)

About the blade shape (which is great, no question about it): isn't it a little bit like a blade used in Finnish puukko?

SWEET! :D That is a really nice job. Welcome to the forums, by the way. Keep up the good work. That knife would fit right in at a Mountain man get together!

diogo, do you eat meat, have any leather shoes or coats? oh, i almost forgot. excellent knife and sheath. reminds me of something an indian or mountain man would wear. true craftsmanship.

Wow! The cave bear tooth must be huge.Where did you get it?I have to say for your first knife I am impressed stick with it.Love your choice of materials. There is always going to be someone to object to them but that is what makes the world go around, all the different personalities.Besides this is hardly the place to start that debate.Instead of sharing in your accomplishment they find ways to pick it apart. It is so cool to be able to create something with your hands and share it with others. Thanks for sharing...........RB

I really appreciate all of the nice comments about my knife! Concerning the point about using animal parts, I won't be drawn into that argument (it's too close to the religion and politics topics we are all warned to stay away from ;-)! All I will say is that if you look at the web site in my signature line, that will explain my views on this. And it is a fully consistent world view, I might add. But to each his own...
