So I am look for a general purpose knife. Not necessarily a EDC, but one for camping and tasks around the house. My budget is $40. The knives I was looking at were the:
Kershaw Skyline
Kershaw OD-2
Kershaw Clash

I will also accept any other recommendations you guys have, and I want to know also between these 3 which is the best all around knife for what I need it to do.
Thanks

I recommend a Swiss Army knife. Choose one with the blades you want. For what you say, maybe a hiker, farmer or camper. Knives will come and go, but I will never part with my SAK.

SEBENZA SEBENZA. Lol just playing, i love my sebenza but i don't think you'd get more than a lanyard for 40$. I'd have to recommend the victorinox huntsman ruby lite. I love that thing. It's perfect for pocket carry and is just a semi stripped down version of the swisschamp. If you aren't into swiss army knives, i'd say get an opinel #7 or so, or a mora knife. Maybe even a buck 110? I like kershaw and have a few of their knives, but i wouldn't recommend that steel for camping and woods duty.

I am with Vanguard. For what your looking for and price range check out a rat-1 folder.

great flat grind for slicing, tough, steel liners, easy to clean with the open scales, locks up solid, large comfortable handle with no hot spots and cheap. Their aus-8 is well heat treated, mine holds an edge really well.
Has all the features of a lot of other knives 2 or 3 times the price.

Hard to think of a better folder for just under 30$ Lots of guys here on the forum have them and will say the same thing.

So the Rat-1 would be a better option then say the Kershaw skyline or the Kershaw OD-2. I kinda what a knife the size of the OD-2.

There are lots of great knives out there, although $40 and under is a hard requirement. Luckily there are some great knives for that amount. Check out Nutnfancy's "great folders under $40":

A big part of it is what you find aesthetically Pleasing. I will also through out the Enlan EL-01 which you can get shipped for under $15 from hong kong. It's huge bang for the buck and a big hefty folder so you could get a smaller folder to complement it like the CRKT drifter and still spend about $35 total.

I would also recommend almost anything by Kershaw in terms of value.

If you could stretch your budget just another $8 or $9 then you could get a Buck Vantage Pro which is about the best value if you want more premium materials in a great mid-size folder. It has S30V steel which is considered quite good even for knives in the $100-$150 category, so at just under $50 it's an amazing deal and most agree it's a great design.

I'd look at a Kershaw Zing before pulling the trigger on an OD-2 or Skyline. Also in your price range are some good Boker Plus models (Hyper, Trance) and the Spyderco Tenacious family. Of course, any Swiss Army Knife (SAK) would make a great EDC.

But if you don't mind a bigger blade, you absolutely cannot beat the Ontario RAT-1 for the money...

The Rat-1 is just bigger and beefier, they are both outstanding value knives that tons of experts here love. The RAT-1 is more geared towards heavy and outdoor use, the skyline for general EDC cutting tasks (tape, paper, boxes, fruit, etc.).

The only thing I don't like about the RAT-1 is it doesn't have the flipper. I would prefer a knife with a flipper.

Well they are very different, but for most people who aren't ranchers or backpackers or SWAT team members the Skyline is pretty close to an ideal knife.
