I just took delivery of my first knife from Ray Laconico, and most likely not my last.

I had him make a larger version of a utility blade that I saw when I visited him two months ago.

Blade is 4.5" O1 with full flat grind and convexed edge, full distal taper. Handle is Kamagong (Philippine ebony, similar to macassar ebony).

Ray does a fantastic job. After handling his knives (I get to look at others that he has finished when I visit him, too) all my factory knives seem clunky.

Hey thanks for posting that. You take great pictures. I like how you got the details up close.

It no longer looks like that. I was at a Christmas party for work, and we had a large prime rib to cut up. We were at the home of a co-worker, and all she had was a pile of 420J2 kitchen knives that couldn't cut butter. Fortunately, this was in my car, so I used it to cut up the prime rib. O1 takes an interesting patina. I'm used to how 1095 gets a brown to black patina, but this now has patina that can only be described as blue and purple. I find it quite interesting.

And yes, it did a great job on the prime rib.

It also bit me for the first time. As I was cleaning it afterward, I barely bumped my finger against the edge. It laid my finger open enough that it wouldn't stop bleeding without a bandage putting pressure on it.

That is a very nice looking knife. And it sounds as though it works well too. Good purchase.
