So after a long time i have finally taken the plunge and bought a becker BK9

I just purchased my second ESEE Jungalas, but i am such an obsessive collector-hoarder that because of the low serial numbers (sub 1000) i wont ever be able to bear using them. So i Needed to fill the role of large chopper.

My buddy bought me a becker necker before we deployed. I carried it as an EDC knife prior to deployment and for the first half of deployment.

It exceeded my expectations and truly is on par with the izula in temrs of functional neck knife.

With the spyderco sharpmaker and ultra fine rods i could get a very nice elvel of sharpness.

Before deployment I also purchased a kabar tanto, it was my first kabar knife and it eneded up souring me towards kabar products in general. It came very dull and its just wasn't a very useful knife, I bought it to use and abuse, and it just wasnt up to my performance standards, even for a tactical/fighting knife it just wasnt well designed IMHO. So i sold it 3 days before i deployed at a highly discounted price to another soldier so i wouldnt have to see him wlaking around with a 5 dollar made in china rip-off strider.

Fastforward almost a year to present day. Im nearing the end of my service and when i ETS and before i seek college and employment, im going down the colorado river with my father and hiking through part of washington state with one of my friends, Obviously being a knife person this means i would need a knife or 10. Even though i have a substantial knife collection i have never owned a large "chopper knife" so it came time to take the plunge on that seein as how i will soon be entering the woods of washington state

Ii was hesitant to buy another kabar product, but the overwhlemingly positive reviews and insights (mainly on this forum and sub-forum) have moved me to give kabar another chance and i settled on the BK9 as the perfect combination of qulity and reasonable price (im getting a lid on my knife buying as im soon to be un-employed.)

When i get the knife in hand i hope to be able to do a review on it, And subsequently i hope to be able to post some beautiful pics of it in use in washington state and the grand canyon.

Thanks for reading the over long post and thanks for providing the information that swung my purchasing decision.

First and foremost Thank You for your contribution to keep the peace in the USA !!!

I'm glad to see you gave them another chance, I've had a bad taste with Ka-Bar when I was a kid, I guess it was the leather handle falling apart that sent me over the edge.. This was a long time ago but still had this 'cloud' above me with Kabar, but when I really considered what it was that turned me off I realized how small a problem it was and started questioning if it really was even a kabar or a knock off, its been so long.

with that said, I don't think Ethan Becker would've used them for his designs if he didn't have a smidge of confidence, I don't know Ethan but I have enough insight of the man to know he stakes more on his reputation..

I'm interested to see how it performs.. please keep us posted..

Congrats on the BK9. I think you'll find it to be a faithful companion as well as a capable chopper! I own both Becker's and ESEE's, but as far as bang for your buck (or chop for your change), you've made a good decision with the BK9!! :)

Another big thanks for your service to our country. It's the brave souls like yourself that have kept us safe. IMO the BK9 should exceed your expectations. It's more than a chopper. It chops with the best of them and yet still slices like a chefs knife. Can it be destroyed? Sure, any blade can. I think some of the other sharpened prybars are more durable, but they don't slice and do any detail work, nearly as well. While battoning, my BK9 has taken nearly a 20 degree bend and popped back to straight when coming out the other side. Tooj has the HT on the steel down perfectly. Not to mention, if you have any issue with the blade, Tooj has shown that he will make things right. Ka-bar is a great company that strives to produce quality knives at a very fair price. Ka-Bar of today is not the Ka-Bar of 7-8 years ago. They have brought in some top notch people, like Tooj, who are bringing the company back to the top. I think the quality of the product has improved significantly over the last few years. In other words, You'll be happy.. :D

first but not last :) welcome aboard!
