Was not what I would have anticipated. I walked into my local B and N, and Whoah Nelly, almost the moment I walked in, handmade, blank, beautiful books, EVERYWHERE! It was difficult, very difficult...despite the fact that I can barely wear any of my leather belts anymore, lest I look at it and see thousands of dead animals in my minds eye, those leatherbound books were beautiful, undeniably so. But, I ended up with a crinkly little 'pale forest green' tome made of gorgeously old school, sustainable, and pretty tough lokta paper, made by hand in Nepal, and in my grateful hands thanks to fair trade organizations....
I will have to find my 'relatively' old photo sharing web site again, or sign up with a new one, cause words don't cut it for such a wonder as this. An old school book, made by hand, bound with strong threads, populated by marvelously textured, aged, and hand torn pages, swaddled in beautiful, mountainous topographic green covers, the spine textured by the traditional stitch of bookbinders...dont let me get too mushy on you all, just marveling in the relaxing, great tranquility of a great blank book, a true window to ones soul....
As you might have noticed, this book really is special to me, what I would call a generation book. And I informed you all not because Barnes and Noble need any more attention, though it is thoughtful (and probably profitous) of them to do so, but because anyone looking for a sustainable, recyclable, compost-able, and genuinely cool book (and support a rich, beautiful culture as well)...check it out. There are other places that sell lokta paper in general as well as in books, search and you will find, though I would be glad to help, understandably!
So, yeah, let me know if you all like my description, pictures will come soon, hopefully, and anyone who knows purveyors of these books besides the described, please let me know in whatever way you wish to use. I hope you all have a great day, and I hope I was of assistance to those avid writers or artists out there, and to connoisseurs/lovers of Nepalese culture.
Peace.
David
