I met Ernie Emerson for the very first time today at the Chicago Knife Show, and I have to tell you all the he is probably the nicest maker I have ever met. I was sitting in the lobby just outside the doors of the show and he was walking by with his hands full with two drinks. I said "Hello Mr. Emerson." And not only did he say "Hello," but he stopped, put his drinks on the table that was next to me, and then shook my hand. I really didnt expect him to stop. I was shocked that he did. We talked briefly, and he invited me to hear him give his presentation at the show. I wasnt able to make the presentation, but I wish I had. I just thought it was cool of him to take a few moments out of his free time to just talk with a knife nut. Before I left, I stopped by his table and bought a shirt and beenie cap, (the best deal at the show) and he was talking to others about his video and knife designs. He really is a class act and I just wanted to share this story with everyone who have not met the man personally. Aaron Kelley

Glad you shared your story with us. It's always nice to see when a maker remembers how he got where he is today. There are some with egos that far outweigh their clout in the knife world, and as soon as I'm feeling that, my business goes elsewhere.

Always nice to hear that a knifemaker is a good person.

Ernie Emerson is definitly a "Type A" person. And that often means the person is a self-important jerk. But it can also mean the person is confident in their own abilities but respectful of others and their abilities.

Yeah, the difference between "Type-A" and "Type-Ass" personalities is often a very fine line. Great to hear that Mr. Emerson is such a nice guy. That makes me feel even better about using his tools, since I'd rather give my business to friendly, considerate people.
Thanks for sharing!
