Guys: This may be the wrong place to post this as I'm also selling the things.....but I would like the input from a forum where I know most of the posters are also makers. Its professionaly heat-trated chisel ground D2, Molly-Teflon Coated with a synthetic handle coating and a Concealex sheath. I like the way the way the reinforced tip came out but any suggestions guys as I've had great luck with this model and plan to offer more in the future (a larger version 8" version with Carbon Fiber scales..bead blasted blade) Any thoughts?..Thanks...Bryn.....

Bladewiz, do yourself and those who want to visit your web site a favor, lose the background! I never did get to see your knives. The page just plain loads way too slow. Why don't you post a pic here?? Take care! Michael

I took your advice and lost the scanned pic for a background on the homepage and reduced the size of some of the pics.. Still loking for comments on the actual knife, and any other help on speeding up the page would be appreciated.....Thanks!..bryn

Bladwiz, I already emailed you my thoughts, but just to share them here as well...
The knife is definitely JSP Bladerigger-esque! That company is pretty much the only one around using that type of coating, which seems to be the same thing or pretty similar to what you are using. Even the shape of the knife is very reminiscent, but I forget what it reminds me of...
It looks like a good first effort, for sure! I haven't ever actually held a knife with that type of coating, but I have a feeling I wouldn't like it. I know I don't like the looks of it, but I have a feeling your knives are designed with purpose in mind first, THEN looks coming in a distant second. The knife looks tough, which is good for the right application, but if you want something in the future that cuts really well, I would suggest a double rather than chisel grind and either thinner stock or less-shallow grinds. I think this is going to be a popular knife with the "thicker is better" sharepened prybar crowd, and being D-2, I think, it will probably be indestructible! Good work, Bladewiz!

Nice job. Your grinds are good, although I would make them less shallow to help slicing capability and reduce resistance when cutting. I would try and find a different coating that takes a smoother finish too. The look of that finish doesn't appeal to me very much, and since you've gone with a very solid design, I have a feeling the knife will see hard use. If you get into heavy cutting, I would be afraid the finish on there now, would either add resistance, or eventually start coming off in chunks.
Other than those minor things, and they just don't go with the style of knife I like, its a great first knife.

Fix it right the first time, use Baling Wire !

Bladewiz, I second what Matt said on the coating, too. The latest Blade magazine has a story on coatings, and Ricky Fowler mentions something available from MSC called Tool Black. He says you can dip the entire knife with scales and everything and it acts only on the steel. or, at least, that's my understanding of what I read. Looks like a nice coating and he says it holds up very well. Looks just like Black T in the picture.

Thanks for your replies. I think I agree about making the the grind lines higher on the 1/8" stock. Also need to expand my double-grinding but that 'lil sharp prybar IS tough in D2...I'm very tough on my worker knives.the pretty ones stay on the holders on the shelves. It does cut pretty well though.
As far as the coating on the blade I used Molly-Teflon Bake on and it seems to hold pretty well during tests....it doesnt look as rough in person as the scanned image shows....(Since I haven't gotten this months blade I'll have to assume my wife didnt send in the damn renewal so I'll have to shell out the $5 cause I'd love to see that article you mention!)
The coating on the handle may not be pretty but it REALLY gives a good grip to the knife, even when wet. While bladeriger-esque, I think you are going to see it used a lot more on "worker" knives (although it wont be the same as his as he states his is proprietary) due to its great gripping properties. Hitiing on that "esque" point brings up what would make another great topic to post: Was the SECOND person to make a Kydex sheath called "Wegner-esque?" or the second to make a tanto-style blade "Japanese-esque?"... food for thought...
Thanks again for the input..as ususal this forum is alsways helpful! Im glad I made the step towards making metalic knives....Bryn
