Got my first Miller today. (From Sooner State Knives) Orange G-10 handles. I love it and I know it was a great purchase. I have quite a few knives that have S-30V. But have never user any of them. I have mostly used my D-4. I'm very hard on knives and never wanted to use an expensive knife but I'm using this one. expensive to me anyway. Will this steel be that much better?

VG10 and S30V are both great!

S30v will hold an edge a bit longer and vg10 is a bit easier to touch up. That's my experience with both. Others will chime in for more technical comparisons.

My first Millie was the Orange G10 version too. I fell in love. It's such a great knife. Right now we're in a heat wave so I've been wearing shorts. Once it cools down I'll start carrying the Millie and Manix. They're just too heavy for light shorts!

poopdot, that is quite nice. My first Millie is in mail I get it tomorrow or day after that. It happends to be Orange G10 Millie too :D

s30v is a good working steel, it won't maintain the razor edge as long as say vg-10, but it develops a working edge that will hold for quite a bit before becoming too dull.

In my experience, S30V appears to hold an edge better than VG10. I've been using my Military heavily since I received it, and like the toughness of S30V. I've slipped and jammed the very tip into stone, as well as cleaned a number of fish without really losing cutting power. A lot of cardboard has been cut, too. The tip was perfect except for a tiny burr I removed. The edge got slightly duller, but still seemed to cut fish, line and cardboard smoothly without any hassle. When I finally sharpened it up, it seemed to be much easier than everything I'd read.

I don't seem to have the best of luck with VG10. It keeps developing minor rust patches. I take my S30V into water often and still haven't had any rust or discoloration. I don't know why, just an observation.

Congrats on the knife, the Military is my favorite utility knife ever.

S30V better than VG10? Night and Day. I almost consider VG10 a low end knife steel. It doesn't hold an edge very long compared to S30V in my experience. Not even close. I don't do the "scientific" knife cutting tests but I'd wager S30V would perform several hundred additional cuts when compared to VG10.

Congrats. Before I got mine I didn't realize how large it is. After having carried a Delica for a dozen years this thing was huge. Actually since I'm left handed I just ordered another yesterday since it might get to be hard to replace if I need to.

Miss my Millies terribly. I have chipped S30V with little use but it was the factory edge and probably a result of the new grind. Once I put my own edge to liking on the Sharpmaker I never had another problem.

Its is a BIG folder, I was so used to my d-4. Now I reach into my pocket and immediately think this this thing is much larger. Nice factory edge to. I cut alot of strapping, cardboard tape(I mean alot!!!) so I don't usually have a hair popping edge,I like the edge thats on it now. I am anxiouxs to see how my sharpmaker will do with this steel.

Im actually thinking of getting one with a combo blade and swapping them out so I can have a combi with my orange g-10 handle.

Very cool. :D I just did the same thing - got another LH Military for backup.

I was gonna trade away/sell my LH Military. Mine was a gift, and I don't use folders much...but when the deal fell thru...I found myself happy to keep it...wanted a black blade...wrote to Spyderco...they told me it was limited run and probably wouldn't be re-done...so I grabbed a LH back-up while I still could - even if it doesn't have a black blade.

It's simple to carry - "shrinks" with use and carry time - and has decent belly in the blade to aid in filleting, skinning, and food prep. I'm glad I kept mine and got a back up.
