She is a Cougar!

This week I received a user BM-E and couldn't be happier. I love the blade shape on these and became obsessed when I saw the BM-E. Fortunately, I found one - thanks Ban!

Also, conveniently, the wife seemed to throw out some old cedar chairs for me and the mistress to play with. A mini Ohio chop off on the Fourth of July. I don't think the chairs ever had a chance!!! My 3 1/2 year old son was impressed with the short work the mistress made of the chairs - giving me several words of encouragement and talking about "Daddy's knife".

Work done! Rode the Mistress hard!

Definitely impressive when you bust through parts in one chop. I totally enjoyed myself.

Now, some questions.

I bought this as a user and have found some slight dings/bends in the edge. What's the best way to take care of the edge and/or re-sharpen the asymetrical edges on this BM-e?

I'm not the most confident re-sharpener yet on something this caliber and quality. Gun stuff - no problem. Re-sharpening - still consider myself a rookie.

I want to treat this cougar right - give me your advice on edge maintenance. It doesn't need a complete re-sharpen but it isn't shaving sharp either. I can feel some imperfections in the edge though.

Thanks in advance!

It would also be nice to see who some other Ohio HOGS are. I'm just a Pig but the collection is growing!

Congrats, my favorite chopper is a BM-E, and I know I'm not alone around here.

For dings and rolls, I use a smooth steel to push the edge back into alignment.

As for modifying the assym edge, that's a job for the shop or maybe Ban.

I've still got mine, too much metal to remove to balance the profiles.

this is from BadMojo about sharpening the assym.

Welcome

Thanks jimmyjones. I want to keep the asymmetrical edge so that's the type of info I'm looking for.

Nice BM-E! :)
Ceramic rods work well, too.

Welcome to the madness

I'm in Columbus, OH...there are a few Ohio Hogs out there

that's a winner for sure. i have one like it hanging on the door of my retreat. a keeper for sure!

.

The assy. edge is very easy to maintain. Holding the knife in your right hand and using it on a flat benchstone will sharpen the flat part of the edge. When it's been sharpened down a bit you can touch up the convex side with some wet/dry sandpaper and a mouse pad or leather backing.

What kind of smooth steel can be used to remove the rolls/folds?

Thanks to everyone for the compliments on my BM-e.

I seem to have an eye for some of the "classics". I would love to have a SH-e as well!

Good choice. When the zombies come and you shift your HQ to the retreat, it'll be close at hand.
