My first Modded Becker project

Success, the photos posted!

Congrats on the first mod, its always memorable.

And what exactly did you do to this one? Sand down the coating on just the edge and part of the primary grind?

I did a chemical strip, then a base patina with vinegar, then I carefully applied cold blueing solution to give it kind of a laminated steel look to it. Convexed it on the KO Worksharp and viola! Looking into maybe stippling the scales next.

Nice work, I think you got the effect that you were looking for :). I also like the highlights on the swedge and edges. Looks great.

And just as a public service announcement, I'm just making sure that you know that gun bluing isn't food safe. So now that its a blued knife, it probably shouldn't be used for food prep (not trying to offend, just don't want anyone sick :)).

Thanks for the heads up

That looks great! Faux hamon. I like it....though all of my 15's seem drawn to food prep - no gun blue for me. Which is too bad, 'cause that seriously looks good. Nice job.

That's hawt.

And I for one appreciate the heads up on the bluing. While I'm sure I heard it before, after seeing this the first thought that came to mind was to run out and try it for myself. Will hold off since the 15 is definitely drawn to food prep.
