I needed to find something to get my blade fix instead of window shopping and shopping shopping so after hanging out with good ol' JD one night, I got inspired to start some modifications to my 9.

JD, dremel and the 9 lookin to start somethin'

It seems y'all are divided when it comes to choils and I didn't want to overdo it, so I went with the little choil

Next up, figure out what to do for a patina.

Lookin good! How many of the dremel sanding drums did you have go to through before you finished the choil?

As far as patina, I'm a big fan of Clich's gun blue + bleach etching method. Beware though, as it is an etch it is permanent. Came out fantastic on my BK14, still screwing up the courage to do it on my 12 though...

Not bad at all. I'm one of the guys in the "no choil" camp, but your's doesn't look bad at all.

I'm a big fan of Clich's technique, but a forced patina using an acidic medium is fine as well. I like A-1 sauce and spicy brown mustard, myself.

I used one the grinding stones and it worked great. I went nice and slow and it held up really well.

The blue bleach etch does look great but I also liked the dark patina DerekH has on his 16.

As for the 12, I'm holding off on doing anything on mine too. I used some red scotchbrite and just smoothed out the coating. Looks great but I think I'll just strip it like you did. And I'm looking into some wood handles for that and the 16 I got on the way.

looks good, for a choil lol. good lines and workmanship.

It came out a nice silver color. The more Beckers I strip the more variations I see....every one looks different under the black...like a secret present LOL

Make your next visit out here either in the fall oct or spring for becker west.

I was just looking at some of the pics a few days ago. Looks like a great time and a great excuse to get back out in the woods. Whereabouts was it held this year?

Im down around the lower 80's myself

I like it down that way and hoping to get there this summer. I'm not a native so I don't really know many good outdoor spots. Any hiking, fishing or camping suggestions would be much appreciated.

It was 35 miles west of Eugene, in the coast range.

i have a BK2 that i had stripped, and was wondering what to do for a patina. i settled on a hot vinegar dip, and the black blade is much more fitting for my BK2
