I've wanted to make one of these for a while and I needed to try something new.
Many firsts for me on this one, flat grinding, mortised tang and a guard. This one is a little rough so it's my new shop knife but I really like making these and I'm looking forward to my next one.

4" 1084 blade
Bronze guard with black G10, copper, and bronze spacers
Fat brown Sambar stag handle
8.5" o.a. length

Thanks for looking,
Dave

Flawless comes to mind

:eek::eek::eek:

That, my friend, is sweet. I'm normally not a fan of stag handles (blasphemy, I know) but that one just BEGS to be held.

Rough was the wrong word, unfinished is a better one :) A couple more hours of refining and it would be finished. I made it to get some experience with this type construction because the knife I really want to make next will have more expensive materials.
Nothing like trying something new to get recharged. The fat stag handle does feel great in the hand.

Thanks you guys,
Dave

Right from the beginning this knife was a test / practice piece, if I made it to sell I would bring it to a finer finish. I think I'm hooked on this style knife, it was a whole lot of fun to make.

I used Terry Primos great tutorials for the solderless guard and the mortised tang, it was very nice of Terry for taking the time to share his knowledge.

Thanks again,
Dave

Looks like fun! That handle has a lot of grip and character.

I'm impressed, but not surprised... :D

Great looking knife.

I think that you have managed to capture the signature look that your folders have and translated it into a fixed blade. Especially the handle. To me, at first glance, it looks like one of your folders.

IMO this is a good thing as then all your knives could be easily recognised as being yours.

Thanks Coop, I got some great news the other day about the photo you took of the mammoth peacock folder.

airyq, I never thought about it until I read your post but you're right, it does have a similar handle shape. I'm really looking forward to my next fixed blade knife, it'll look completely different from anything that I've ever made.

Thanks,
Dave
