I have Kabar knives but I have inherited them from my grandfather. I was apprehensive in buying this knife as my friend's KaBar was sub-par. Took a chance and bought this. I am happy with it. I have been playing with it for a bit and I am really happy with it. I haven't had it for very long to give it an intensive review, but first impressions, I like it! It was razor sharp out of the box and today is a good day!

Gotta love a Ka-Bar. I used to do gun shows with my dad as a kid, so I have wanted one for the past 20 years, but I always spent my money on folders. I am a big kid now and have a little extra money to spend, so I finally got myself one a couple weeks ago...same exact model you have. Neat knife with a whoooole lot of history. I also bought my uncle (USMC Vietnam vet) the Vietnam commemorative Ka-Bar along with a display case so he can put it in his office.

You should check out the hard plastic (similar to kydex) sheath they offer. Nice sheath, gives it an "old school meets new school" look. You can get them for $15 on amazon.

As a kid, I always wanted either a classic skinner with the elk horn handle or a Rambo knife with all the cool stuff with it. My grandpa would go to gun and knife shows and I would always beg him to go to the military surplus store. He did buy me a tactical "Rambo" knife. Still have the knife he bought me. I loved KaBar since I was a kid as well, I was gonna buy one a while back but as I said in my original post, my friend bought one and it was pretty shoddy quality. However, I am so happy with this knife. I'm no longer into the whole tactical look anymore, but I'll check out that sheath. Just might bring out some childhood memories :D!

We must be about the same age. The Rambo knife was all the rage at those gun shows my dad and I vended at.

I got mine more as a collector piece (not that it'll be worth anything, I just wanted one to have). Mine was sharp out of the box, too...very surprised at that. I bought a couple bayonets about the same time (OKC M-9 and the OKC3), and they were about as sharp as a marble.

My first KaBar was USMC issue but it was years later before I got my own personal blade. A friend gave me a blood- and gut-caked Camillus Mk1 Navy scary sharp. Since then acquired a few more including one I had laser engraved with my military information. The knives are good.
