I've always wanted a Captain, and it was on sale and apparently recently discontinued, so I pounced. I understand that this blade is a love it or hate it deal, but I personally think it is one of the coolest I've ever seen... something you'd normally only get with a custom. And I'm not too concerned about its practicality because it will mostly just get played with, admired, and possibly sharpened. I have wanted to try VG-10 for awhile now, mostly to find out how it sharpens, polishes, etc. But with its wonky recurve and outcurve(?) I'm not too sure how to approach sharpening and honing it. Any tips?
It's a lot smaller and heavier than I anticipated, but those are good things in my book. And it feels great in my hand! If I weren't so sick of hearing the simile "fits my hand like a glove", I would say that it fits my hand like a glove
. This is also my first Seki City Spyderco, so I finally understand the difference in G10 between this kind and Golden's. While there is certainly nothing wrong with this variety, I do prefer Golden G10. Seki G10 feels a bit more plastic-y to me, and not quite as grippy as the other stuff.
My only criticism would be of the liner lock. It is almost flush with G10 scale next to it and with the liner opposite of it, so it's a bit difficult to get a decent portion of my thumb on it.
Here are a few quick pics.
And then after showing this little guy so much love, he goes ahead and bites me!
I'm very happy with this purchase! Many thanks to Sal and Jason Breeden.
