Just received my first non-SAK slipjoints today: a Bulldog Viking Wharncliffe Whittler and a Case Baby Butterbean. Both were from ebay, so though they were claimed to be NIB, there may have been some prior usage. The Bulldog is a very nice knife! The fit and finish are very good, and the blades snap into place with authority, especially the wharncliffe blade which benefits from the both of the backsprings. Plus it just plain looks good. The edge was non-existent which was to expected from what I've read about slipjoint traditions. After some profiling and sharpening, all 3 blades are razor sharp and ready to whittle! The only complaints about this knife are: the pen blade is ever so slightly bent, causing it to have nicked the brass liner during a closing at some point. Also, on the coping blade, the nail nick actually penetrates to the other side of the blade! You can see light through my coping blade. I think they cut that just a little too deep at the factory... Overall though, I am very happy with the Bulldog.
The Baby Butterbean is a neat little knife, definitely not the pinnacle of quality, but a very handy 'pocket knife'. I got the most basic version, with carbon steel blades and delrin scales. The blades have sharpened up nicely and I think I may get a fair amount of use out of this cute little thing...
Anyway, just thought I'd share my 'knife' day...
