Very nice for first knife. I would use one of those gladly... just with different handle color :)

I agree with thejamppa, I would use the knife with a different handle. Drill some holes, get some nice scales and put some with screws/glue. Would add a whole new dimension IMHO.

What kind of steel if that? I agree, bolt some 3d textured G-10 or micarta on there and you'd definitely have something.

I appreciate the comments

Its an old "Beaver" brand rasp, i tested it to see if the steel was any good and when fully hardened it broke like glass and the grain was very fine. The best i could tell is that is is in the 10XX family so i heat treated it like 1095.

I didnt like the handle either but thats what the guy wanted, its industrial shrink boot that is used for catv hardline ect.. (i work for a cable co.) i made another knife out of the same kind of file, wasnt happy with how thw blade turned out so i put some black boot on it and was gonna use it for a utility knife. One of my linemen saw it and just had to have it, later he was calling me to make one for his neph. the fire fighter.

Totally agree that it needed a dif handle but that is what he wanted.
