My first oil quench, using Dave Larsen's Kiln and awesome quench tank with pump and heater. The blade is 9.5" of 1075 that RichardJ sent me. ACtual record date was 9-13-10 at 7:15pm. I can't get the date to stick in the camera.

The video camera is perhaps the neatest part, they are sunglasses with a video camera between the lenses. Pop the lenses out and you have a nice head mounted video camera that looks wherever you do. I should mention that Dave was manning the DVR glasses. Also, let me introduce my sons, Graham and Atlas.

Looking good Charles, did you get that bad boy tempered in time? Bet you stayed up late with it didn't you? :)

Ah, my toaster oven has a 90 minute timer on it, so I was only up until about 11:30. I let it cool for about 30 minutes between tempers. A file skates nicely off the edges and tang. Since the flat isn't hardened, could I stamp it? Or will I have to etch? Oh, and I think it does have ever so slight of a hamon down the middle.

Etch and rub to bring out the hamon, others here know more about that than I do. :) You can try stamping the blade, but etching is a more certain endeavor. You really do need to start marking your stuff... Not to be a nag or anything. Looking forward to seeing the handle on this one!
